Default Is your reception better or worse?

I just noticed that I barely get 1.5 bars at home, whereas on my 8830 I would get 3 bars.

I updated the roaming area, but that didn't improve things.

Anyone else notice a decline in reception strength?

No difference here. I usually have 4 bars at home and it didn't change with the Tour.

No difference with me either. Same excellent reception with my Tour as with my previous 8830. Better telephone sound though, far better speakers and louder volume on alert tones too.

No difference with mine, possible tower issue in your area or defective antenna?

Verizon does this using Preferred Roaming Lists which get updated from time to time. Not sure if Sprint uses PRL's.

With Sprint BB you can got to manage connections, then mobile network options, then change your network selection to home only, you can see if this helps signal or not. To update your roaming you dial *2 i believe, can someone confirm that?

Thanks everyone, I'll look for another culprit, or check another phone.

To update the roaming area for Verizon dial *228 and select option #2 (I believe). it will say the option is to update the roaming area.

Everyone should update their VERIZON roaming capabilities once a month by dialing *228 and then follow the instructions. It is a free service and takes about 3 minutes. I update mine on the first of every month.

Default Signal Strength Numbers

I am aware of the scale (-40 to -120) and how it relates to the number of bars showing on the device but here is what I don't get. How can I be sitting in one place and the device goes from -128 to -88 and back and forth with these wild fluctuations in a moments notice. How the heck do I really know my signal strength at any point in time??

Worse here.

Similar (kind of) to my wife's Storm, but more susceptible to upstairs/downstairs (no idea why) in my house.

To the OP, I have your problem. The phone seems to have a weak radio in certain environments. You are not alone. You may want to try getting an Extender for your home.

Worse... it actually is pretty odd. It really jumps around a bunch on this device compared to the 8830. My feeling is that the radio may not be as robust, but it may be a SW issue.

We are on the same page. My hope is that an OS upgrade will at least minimize the problem.

No reception issues here either and voice quality seems better to me.

ak...

Thanks for the extender idea, I might try that, but it's noticably worse that the 8830 at other locations too.

At least the bars are worse -- unless I make a call, I don't really know how bad it might be. I don't suppose the scale could change on relative number of bars = xx% reception?

I know I don't have the latest OS. It seems there is one posted here that is slightly incremental to what is on my phone. I may try that next.
