Default Using Blackberry Without data Plans ?

Please Login to Remove!

I feel sorry for posting it again but i was too confused reading all forums. So please answer my question with complete details without links to other forums.

My question is :

Hi I am new to blackberry and want to purchase a bb phone with os6. So i just want to know do i require DATA SERVICES and other bb plans from my carrier to use internet on bbphone. Like i have Wifi at home and office, so can't i use BBM and browser and other apps on wifi. Or do i need plans to use apps like facebook, twitter and browser and BBM.

I want to go with 9300 3G.

Welcome to the forums.

Yes, you will need a BlackBerry specific data plan to use the Browser, BBM, Facebook, and any other RIM application.

You could use a 3rd party browser such as Bolt or Opera Mini and use WiFi to browse the web.

No, you need a BlackBerry Data Plan... even if you're on WiFi.

Before I got my data plan I was able to use BBM, facebook, twitter etc with only wifi and no data. The only thing I was not able to access was the browser

Some carriers will offer "feature enablers" to give you some BB functions without the full BB data plan, but it's a temporary thing designed to give you a limited time preview before you buy. And fewer carriers are even offering this anymore. The last U.S. Carrier to do this was T-Mobile and I believe they have discontinued it.

If BBM worked, I guarantee there was some kind of BB data plan associated with your account. Maybe a "feature enabler", or maybe just a lucky error by your carrier.

They know the model and features of every phone on their network. And the capability of each. Most will catch usage very quick.

Yeah, we understand what you are saying, but just like rambo keeps saying if you had any Blackberry services at all (without paying for it) it was because your service provider put them there to try and let you see how nice it is to have them, just like free HBO for 2 months on the telly, to get you to like it and buy it.

It was not because there is a way to use the Blackberry functions of the phone on wi-fi without paying for it. You must have Service Books sent to the phone by the service provider, and they do that untill after they get paid. When you stop paying, or change your phone, it stops working.

And, as you later added the Blackberry Internet Services (BIS) to your phone plan, their free preview must have worked for you.

Not trying to sound hard but this is a business that the carriers win all the time. If it was that easy to bypass the carriers a lot of people would be doing it and believe me, it is not a easy thing to do when they control ALL access.

Reguardless of the network, GSM or CDMA they will block you and then you will have a nice shinny brick

Well I am not very knowledgeable with cell services so I will take what you guys are saying as fact. Then again if you have a BB you should have a data plan. Otherwise what is the point of having one.

How much do you guys pay for data? I am paying $25 a month for 500mb

The price varies from carrier to carrier but that sounds reasonable for that amount of data.

I pay more for unlimited with ATT
