I'm kind of tired of seeing the answer "NO" for all of these questions, you CAN change the color of the trackball on ANY blackberry, people say the only way is to color the SMD, put colored tape over it, or take a Sharpie to it, NO! It is a simple 0603 replacement. It just requires two soldering irons and two people! Desolder the first one, and solder on a color of your choice! The reason for two people instead of one, is the method used for most desoldering cannot be used here, I am talking about the bathing method, where you bathe the SMD in solder until it comes up, because one person cannot desolder both sides of the SMD without using tons of solder and messing up the surrounding area on a blackberry, just get two experience people with irons, tin the tips barely, and desolder the original! This ensures that there will be no mess what-so-ever! And one person can solder on the SMD to replace! That easy! So please people, stop saying that it can't be done...it CAN! Thanks.

Maybe you should READ that thread, and the one posted here, I said in that thread that ONE person had done it, in which he had to use the bathing method, and which is why I stated here to use 2 people, eliminating that method, thus using less solder, and NOT ruining the board.

Yeah, it can be done... so can open-heart surgery on your kitchen table... but the average joe isn't going to know how or want to bother with it.

I think a colored Post-It flag is a must easier solution...

And relatively easy to change

Right...

Not the greatest idea, true, but I was using a back-up phone in the next 5 minutes, and am about to buy a replacement board for it. The point is that I'm telling people that it can be done, with the correct setup.

Good thing I'm not an "average" Joe...just an above average Joe...and there are many many people that know how to do this, they've just never thought of doing it on a Blackberry.

Simple solution, but it won't be a deep color, it will still seem white, just a colored white, while a new SMD will be a deep color, and you won't have to worry about the post it moving and blocking keys. But yes, that would be a simple and fast solution, but not quality...that might be for the "Average Joe" to do. :D

I cant imagine it "blocking" and keys, even if it shifted. The keyboard has a cover over the pressure sensors as it is, and I don't really see a piece of tape being too much for that to handle. I do understand what you are saying, but it seems like a very high risk operation just to change the trackball color.

But yes, I agree with you, it can be done.

No, we did not, we worked on the already damaged board, and got every single SMD replaced, without a trashy area. The other two that were already performed though, they are messy. I just got annoyed when searching "Changing the color of the Trackball on Blackberry Curve" and it coming up with the simple answer "No, can't be done. Just use a sharpie".

True, I guess I should state that if you have no idea what you're doing, just either color the ball with a sharpie, or use colored tape, if you try it, the below could happen...
