Default 9300 curve in water

Please Login to Remove!

Hi

I dropped my phone in a beer for about 2 seconds, so it wasnt completly wet at all.. i removed the battery and to quickly dry everything. and then like an idiot, i put the battery back on and because everything was working perfect, I did not remove the battery after that. for the next 3 hours, I send texts etc. i went to sleep and the morning after, the entire keyboard wasnt working. i removed the battery and everything has been put in rice for the past 72 hours.

a couple of letters are now kind of working (a ''h'' appears if you touch the l m h o and v..). i can see my homepage (see my incoming unread new messages), i can ''navigate'' but can't select anything it is in my understanding that a short-circuit happened, because there was liquid while the battery was in there.

so do you think it is completely broken or if the rice will fix it eventually? also, a new C-S2 battery is not very expensive at all, if I buy a new one, do you think it will work???

thank you very much for your needed help

Rice could fix it, but beer has sugars which will gum up the innerds of the device.
You can remove the KB and lightly wash the keyboard contacts with isopropyl alcohol or even purified water, and dry again.

But... you never know what damage has already been done might be irreversible.

A new battery will not repair keyboard issues.

also, JSanders, should I replace the keyboard ?

well it's very annoying that I can't post URLs but I found places where they sell keyboard for BB 9300. and the video to take appart the BB 9300.

should I clean it like you said? and if I clean it, do I have to clean the removable keyboard or the blackberry body that is under the keyboard ?

Yes, KB= Keyboard.

You probably need to lightly wash with alcohol or distilled water, the circuit board UNDER neath the keyboard, in the main housing of the BlackBerry.

And yea, the video you found will show you how to replace the KB... be careful, it's not easy, but not too terribly difficult either.

And, my $.02 worth, you will probably have a 60-75% chance of recovering your BlackBerry back to a usable state.

thank you very much.

all right, so i put alcohol with a cotton swab on the circuit board, lightly. and then do I dry it myself or do i put it on a table and let it dry.. or do I put the parts back together immediately and put the whole thing in the rice ?

also,

as I said before, the cellphone wasn't completely submerged by the beer, at all. it wasn't all wet at all. the battery did not get wet and so the stickers that is suppose to change colour did not. do you thing my warranty could still be good ?

If you have NO color to the liquid damage indicators, they are white, I'd suggest getting a warranty exchange. There should be no question from the carrier about liquid damage.

Yes, ethanol alcohol will be ok. I'd hit it a couple of times with a hairdryer or a fan, put it together and in the rice.

thank you.

ok well, i'm not sure about the liquid damage indicators. is it the little white thing on the battery? you seem to say that there more than one. the one on the battery is not completely white, a little red has spread a little.

also, if the warranty thing does not work out,

it was in the rice for the last 3 days and a bit more but I regularly checked if it was working and I now know that it was very stupid as well, it could do damages etc. so do you think i should put it in the rice for another 96 hours (or more) or should I try to open it and clean the circuit board right away? what would be the best

There is only ONE real Liquid Damage Indicator.. the small white 1/8" square sticker on the body of the device sometimes in side the battery area, but the red line on the battery sticker should not enter into discussion. I've gotten brand new devices out of the box with the red stripe across the white sticker on the battery...

That said, your seller could argue otherwise, I've seen them go both ways on the battery sticker.

Yea, now put it back in rice for 3-4 more days, can't hurt one bit.

ok I can't find this small square and I typed curve 9300 liquid damage indicator on google and nothing too helpful came out, it's annoying. but i have to say, i don't see many white things lol. but i am like 90% sure that no liquid entered the battery area.

Aright JSanders. It's all good because even if the white sticker on the battery is not completely white anymore, the company told me to not send the SIM card and the battery, just the phone... and the white sticker on the phone is 100% white. But do you think that there is a chance, while they examine the phone, they fully understand there was liquid on the phone and therefore they decide to refuse me another cellphone? even if the sticker is white
