Default HELP: My torch browser will not work on wifi.

Please Login to Remove!

For some reason my browser will not work on my torch if I connect to WIFI. I tried my home connection, coffee shop hot spot, etc. and it just will not work. On the data plan from At&t it works fine, just not WIFI. twitter, facebook, all apps and everything else work fine its just the browser Im having this issue with. When I try to browse on wifi it trys to load the page then says "unable to connect to the internet, please try again later. If the problem persists please contact your service provider". I connected my ps3 wirelessly to my router and I can browse fine with it so I know its not my router. I contacted ATT and they were not able to tell me anything! Anyone have any ideas?? Thanks Rodney

Just to be clear, the other apps work on wifi, just a problem with the browser? If that's the case, clear browser cache and cookies and try again. It won't hurt to do a hard reset after you clear cache and cookies, and then try again.

The internet browser should work on wifi, but try this. Make sure you have enabled wifi in manage connections, etc ... Which you did, right? Then, open the browser, open menu, select bookmarks, scroll up to wifi services, and select Wi-Fi Hotspot login. At least I'm assuming your have this bookmark. If not look for something similar. If it's an open wifi network you'll get the message that you are connected. If login is required, you'll be directed to the login page.

I have had this exact same issue with my 9700 on 5 out of 7 BB 6 OS Versions. And what "Sometimes" worked was to delete the wifi saved profile and start over. I also had success once, by going to wifi diagnostics and Doing a PING to self and google's website. Its baffling and annoying. I've had better success with the the newer versions 424, 448 (though it hemmorages RAM), and 9700/6.0.0.461, which seems to be a bit better. 424 was the best, though (for everything - virtually no bleed and wifi worked great)

You are on OS 6 I guess? I know the browser selection is automatic on OS 6, so I'm assuming that explains why you don't see the bookmark.

I don't know. I'm stumped.

Have you had this issue from the start, or not?

yep Ive had it since I gotten the phone. I called att and they said it as probably something to do with my router. Thats when I decided to try other hotspots. still didnt work. And then that still wouldnt explain why my ps3 browser works wirelessly.

So, that tells you those apps were using the mobile network. I'll bet the wifi icon has not been bright white, but instead grey. Correct?

The wifi icon on the screen.

And in manage connections you have not had a green checkmark, right?

I don't know the reason. But if you've had the mobile network and wifi on when the other apps worked and browser did not as described in your original post, the reason is that those other apps were using the mobile network and not wifi. Thus when you turned the mobile network off, those apps could not connect.

For some reason you are not connecting to the RIM servers over wifi.

One other thought is to resend service books and see what happens. See How do I resend my service books? - BlackBerryFAQ. Note you can do it from the handset in the email setup app.

I have the very same problem sometimes with my Torch. I HATE the auto select browser.

You might try rebooting both your cable modem AND your router and try again.

I tried this and it works fine on my new Torch. Turned off the mobile connection, launched the browser and all ok. The activity monitor shows traffic so maybe its confusing, can't be on mobile with it turned off.
