BlackBerrys are different than regular cell phones and smartphones. They're an entirely different animal, with a different focus. While most phones get their data from the provider (like BASE), BlackBerrys get their data from RIM through their carrier. That's why you need a specific BlackBerry plan.

BASE should be able to cancel your regular data plan and substitute a BlackBerry data plan. If they sell BlackBerrys then they have the right data plans. You just have to call them and make it clear you're using a BlackBerry.

It CAN definitely go on the internet, but you have to get the right plan from your carrier. If you bought a shiny new laptop from Dell and pulled it out of the box, would you curse it if it didn't suddenly connect to the internet? Of course not. You have to have broadband service.

Plants won't grow without water.
Gars won't run without gas.
BlackBerrys won't work without a BlackBerry data plan.

If BASE supports BlackBerrys, which others above indicate that it does, contact customer service and add BlackBerry data service to your account. As said above, this should be instead of, not in addition to, regular mobile data service.

If BASE cannot or will not sell you BlackBerry data service, then you are out of luck as far as BlackBerry data apps go. But you may be able to use a third-part browser on the carrier network if you configure the APN settings for BASE in TCP/IP options.

Wow, this is completely out of line. We have all VOLUNTEERED our time to try to help you. What do you want us to do? We don't work for BASE, we can't activate a BlackBerry data plan to your account. Hell, we can't even call BASE to have it activated on your account as it is YOUR account and YOU have to do it.

We have told you what you need to do. If you don't like the answer, fine. But don't say we did nothing!

I never heard of activating a BlackBerry via text message. You have to log into BASE's BlackBerry BIS portal and enter your PIN and IMEI.
