Exclamation OS6 on Verizon 9650 PROBLEMS!

Please Login to Remove!

I am a customer with Verizon Wireless, USA...

I have used Blackberry for many years and have usually been satisfied
overall with the system and services provided.

But I regret to report that since Verizon began to support OS6 this month,
and I upgraded my 9650, it has been nothing but problems!

Ever since the software update, I have had issues with the device 'pausing'
to 'think' between commands. It will freeze at times, either for a brief
moment or indefinitely - which requires a battery pull. When it comes to
wireless Internet connectivity... Well that is a whole issue by itself! I
have the Wi-Fi enabled. It connects to the network at my college fine. But
if I try to access ANYTHING it gives me a pop-up that says "unable to locate
server". (The network is working normally and can be used without problem
with a laptop!). I was able to connect and use this same network with my
device before the upgrade! If I turn off the Wi-Fi, then I can get Internet
fine, but inside the campus buildings, signal is almost impossible to get or
keep - hence the use of Wi-Fi.

At home, when I use Wi-Fi (again problems with signal inside the
building-even with a cell relay station on our buildings' roof), I always
get the message "Unable to connect to the Internet, please try again later.
If the problem persists please contact your service provider". I have 99%
signal from my Wi-Fi. Again it will work if Wi-Fi is off.

I have checked all settings and they are the same as they were BEFORE THE
UPGRADE!

I took my device into the Verizon Store and they just had blank looks on
their faces and told me flat out that OS6 is too new for them to offer
support. One tech that I talked to had not even seen a device with OS6 on it
yet. He did not know what OS6 looked like or what changes in features there
had been. Seriously?!

So, now no one can give me any answers and I have one issue after another.

The only suggestion the tech at the store had was to suggest that I dump the
OS6 and revert back to OS5 with the App Loader Desktop Software.

It takes me almost ONE ENTIRE DAY to reconfigure settings and 3rd party
installed apps every time I change the OS!

This is ridiculous!

I would downgrade until a few releases have passed. Some have no issues and some do. I'm waiting for a bit before upgrading. OS 6 does use a lot more memory and it may be your runing too low. You might check available memory and check the Apps running.

I have 236.2Mb of free space in just the device memory alone.
I have only about 1/3 of the 4GB SD card used.
So, I do not think that memory is the issue here.

*SIGH*

You mentioned third party apps. Are you sure they are compatible with OS 6?

You might try installing OS 6 with no other add-on apps to see if it is more stable.

You and I are having the same issue. My phone worked fine until I updated to os6 and I also have enough memory so that isn't the issue. You might need to downgrade. I also called verizon and they have no clue.

Let me start off by saying that Verizon should be ashamed for leaving their customers in the lurch. I am with T-mobile and they have a dedicated bb support team. May want to call Verizon Tech support and see if you can get through to the bb team.

As far as your wi-fi issue:
1. Are you on BES? I doubt u r but just want to be sure.
2. Have you tried a battery pull? I am sure you have but if you want to try again make sure you keep the battery out for at least 30 seconds.

3. What does your wi-fi diagnostics say once you connect? Do you have an IP address once you are connected?

Alon

Ps. OS 6 is awesome. Once everything is resolved you will love it.

I already found the apps that were not able to work with OS6 and they were deleted/replaced.

Still not any better then before.

RIM blocks any email you send to them to complain/inquire saying that we MUST go through our carrier ONLY, unless we want to pay to talk to them! (Charge per incident or subscribe.) I find this to be totally assinine and stupid. I am ready to DUMP blackberry and get DROID! Hell, RIM wants blackberry to look like an android device, might as well just get one.

Ya... I spent almost 90 min trying to explain the issue by phone to VZW. All the guy kept doing was read some screen prompt about how to restore custom words library back to device using the desktop software! HELLO! Dumb$**T! When did I ever mention that I had that issue?! I mean seriously?! I ried to explain it over and over and he just had no clue! Why would VZW send customers an email to inform them of the upgrade and prompt them to do it without training their staff how to support it 1st? So, I figured I would go into the VZW store and go to the tech counter, HA! That was a waste of time. The "tech" had to look up OS6 on Google just to see what it was! He had no idea that VZW was even allowing OS6 on its devices.
They tried to tell me that there was a global BB outage and that is why my device would not allow communication over a wireless router. He completely ignored the fact that I had just told him that as long as I turn of the Wi-Fi on the device, I can get online just fine. I only get an error when I enable Wi-Fi. The final 'solution' per VZW is to revert back down to OS5 (eventhough they will no longer supprt it now that OS6 is released) and spend another day reconfig all of my options AGAIN! or get a refurb replacement for the BRAND NEW DEVICE I have that is not even over 6 months old yet.

I do not think that VZW has a dedicated BB Support Team like TMo. I left TMo because they screwed me (I was with them for over 6 yrs, but they went to crap ever since they began to upgrade the network 3G etc - unless I would buy new devices after each network upgrade).

No, not on BES.

BATT has been pulled .... Well, I lost count after 10x since the upgrade.

Well, I get an IP and I can ping the gateway. But, I can not ping past the gateway and I still cannot get a webpage with Wi-Fi on. It all works fine if I am on the VZW 3G with Wi-Fi off.

The Wi-Fi problem happens both on an open network and on a secured network.

On the open network, I even tried to move from one building to another with the "hand-off" option selected and not selected. No difference.

Both networks work fine from a laptop or a DROID device.

So I can connect, but just cannot get a page to load ... Only errors.

It seems like some sort of DNS issue. Have you tried doing a DNS lookup from the wifi diagnostics?

walter_denver, maybe you should get a Droid. Seems like nothing about BlackBerry suits you and there is no reason to put up with it.

BTW....Your deal is with the carrier and that is why you must deal with them and not RIM. RIM does not sell the BB to you, the carrier does. If you are on the phone with the carrier and they cannot fix something they will generally suggest they transfer you to RIM for higher level service. When they transfer you there is no charge. The carrier pays the bill and you get the higher level tech help. You could request they do that for you if there are records of multiple calls that they can't reolve.

I had the same problem before the upgrade. Tried just about everything and it didn't work. Then I went and deleted all of the Certificates that didn't have a nice green checkmark next to them and the wifi internet suddenly started working again.

Now, I've updated and I'm back where I was. No WiFi internet connection. I have tried all the tricks, batt pull, connecting without WiFi then turning it on, checked the firewall, DNS, everything checks out and is set the way it should be.

I'm not talking about using any apps even! I just want to open the browser and go to a webpage while on a WiFi network. It's not happening. I've been through all the browser settings, deleted my WiFi profile and manually re-created it. Did the battery pull, checked all security settings, firewall is off, browser settings are where they should be, even re-registered the HRT. Still not working.

P.S. I am not connected to a BES. wasn't before either but the connection was enabled. Now it's not connected. Can't find out how to get to that particular setting either.

Have they pulled the Update? I have a user with a 9650 Bold and is at 5.0 xxx but wants to go to 6.0 cause another support team told them updating fixes battery drain issues, but when they go do the wireless update says none available? Maybe pull, getting ready for 6.1?

Greetings to everyone here. I have been searching all over for a 9650 Verizon Form.

Well Let me begin by saying this, the New OS 6.0 for the Bold 9650 is NO GOOD this have beem by third 9650 because of OS issues. where Do I Begin

Paid Asurion for a replacement phone, the phone came with the 5.0 software, I Inctalle the 6.0 Software over the air, This took me 2 hours. use the phone for 2 days and valled teck Support, who them told me to take the pone to Verizon teck station. then check the phone and assured me there was nothing wrong with it. I told them they were drunk and i left the store. these were my ussues.

1, Constant Rebots on its Own
2, Lagging Problems
3, Slow and non responsive
4, Click on a Key and it Does nothing
5, Dropped Calls and Verizon Claims to have the Best Network

kept the phone for 2 more days, Called tech support back again, They told me to call Asurion and have them replace the device. after doing so asurion then told me to take the phone back to Verizon and have them reinstall the 6.0, they claimed that installing it the the pc was better than installing it over the air, it made sense to me so they installed it in the store. waited 12 more days of so, still same issues. Asurion then sent me another phone Complete with the 6.0 os installed. That phone works the same way as the prior, same issues. I called Asurion AGAIN and after arguing with them they then sent me Another 9650 this time with the 5.0 OS. I again took it to verizon. the the same girl that installed the last 6.0 told me that they dont inttall it in the store, who would she lie to me cause I know I just had it done there and She did it for me. Then she tells me the the vorporate office of Verizon removed ot from the server. so I will say as much an I want the New OS, If it didn't work with all that I did, Its not worth it.

The freezing of the phone is due to the fact that the 9650, especially on Verizon's OS6, does not respect its thread limitations. The device can handle 128 threads total. Each app is supposed to be coded in such a way to ensure it never goes over 16 threads. 8 * 16 = 128. Once the device hits that thread threshold, it is not able to recover. It continually runs garbage collection (the spinning clock) in an attempt to reclaim resources that will never be released by any of the apps. The same device on OS5 suffers from the same issue, but it can recover more easily after it crosses the threshold, so you will not experience the slowdown nearly as much on that OS.
