Default BB9700.. Unable to add/edit contacts on device

Please Login to Remove!

I have a very peculiar problem with my BB 9700.
I'm able to sync(over wireless) from my Outlook contact list, but am not able to edit or add new contacts directly on the device.

You're on a corporate BES account?

Check the contacts, and compare to your Outlook "contacts". Also, compare to the other address lists you might have redirected to your device.

Contacts from a public folder are read-only.

How do I know if the folder is read only? Also, how do I change the settings and make it possible to allow me to edit/add on the device.
Thanks in advance.

Dont you have microsoft outlook running somewhere with the same mailbox ?
Compare your blackberries behaviour to outlook, and, compare the items count of your
Contacts on the bb to the count of entiries in the outlook contacts folder.

If there is something wrong, the admin of the server has to fix it. If you are not the admin, you cannot do much.

The count of entries in outlook and BB device matches and I am able to make all changes(add/update) in outlook contact and it also sync wirelessly within seconds to the device. The sync happens only oneway (outlook to device)!!!
Any tip on what I would need to look for?

You could try:
open the contacts on the BB, klick left, "options". Then type blind: "rset".
You will be asked if you want to reload the Address book from the server. Confirm, wait.

However, I dont think, this will fix the problem, looks rather like a Mapi/Cdo or permissions problem with the Server Software and your mailbox. You should talk to the administrator of the Server, if you are not the admin.

Maybe, try how the calendar behaves:
If you cannot edit an appointment on the device, or if the sync of the Calender also is one-way, then, there is something wrong with the server software.

im agree with nobody7290, but you should ask to the administrator to resend the service book to the device too.

It is even possible the admin has setup it like it behaves currently. Afafik it is possible to setup PIM sync one-way.

The calendar entries can be added/updated both from device and from Outlook.. Iam facing issues only with the contacts.

This can work if there is a corrput item preventing a sync.

In outlook Make a new folder for contacts called backup

move all contacts to the folder and wait for all to be removed from device

then pull battery on device and put back in

After device boots move contacts from backup to the contacts folder and wait for them all to appear

Make a new contact on device and see if it gets to the device.

No, nothing specific, there ist just a button to hit in the admin console.
Also, try the reload user command.

maybe: to check if the general Blackberry Server & Exchage system is functional, and, to check if the Device Software is ok:
Create a new User in Active Directory and a mailbox.
Delete your blackberry Account
activate your device with the new account.
If then everything is fine, there is a problem with your mailbox.

In this case, do like knottyrope suggested, or, export your complete mailbox as a pst file, delete your user account, create a new, and import everything, excluded contacts
Import the contacts in a different folder, and move them in pieces of some reasonable number like 50 back in the contacts folder.
