Default Enabling HTML Mail on a BES server

Please Login to Remove!

We will be using Domino 7 & BES 4.1.6 and will be enabling HTML mails.

1) What things should we look out for when doing this? Please share your own experiences and how you resolved them.

2) Was the hit on server memory/CPU significant? What did you to improve server speed/memory usage after enabling HTML mails?

3) What Blackberry policy options allow us to enable or disable users ability to edit HTML mail viewing settings
e.g. Allow/Stop them reverting to plain text

4) Have people found that upgrading the server is generally sufficient to enable this feature or do they find they also need special HTML viewers to make this work

5) can the service be available to some users but not to others - e.g. a lot of our users have pre 4.5 firmware. Can attachments be stripped out for plain text email viewers?

How many users do you have on the BES?
What memory/cpu/disk resources do you have on the BES?

When initially released there were performance problems but since they've gone away with Service Packs

Email Messaging policy group > Disable Rich Content Email IT policy rule

As long as you're at BES 4.1 SP5 and HH OS 4.5 it works out of the gate.

Users that don't have 4.5 HH OS or greater will continue to function as they have been.

We have enough physical resources deployed for our user numbers

Hence the reluctance to go to 5 straight away. Let everyone else work through the bugs first

That's good to know about the firmware on the bbs. The 4.1.5 HTML mail thing is a hack not a preferred corporate solution as far as I can see.

It doesn't work out of the box with 4.1.5.
You need to "hack" 4.1.5 to get HTML messaging.

It wasn't officially enabled until 4.1.6.

HTML email support was officially added with BES 4.1 SP6.

While support was included in SP5, you needed to make manual database edits to make it happen.
