Default Rogers Wireless now offers 3.5G speed

Please Login to Remove!

What a shame I have 3G BB Bold and now its too slow for the Rogers 3.5G

Rogers Communications Inc. is rolling out a "3.5G" cellphone network that will be one of the fastest in the world and which the company says will double speeds for customers using data services such as web surfing and video on their mobile devices.

The Toronto-based company on Thursday December 11 announced the upgrade to its high-speed packet access (HSPA) network, which will boost peak download speeds to 7.2 megabits per second from 3.6 megabits. The upgrade is immediately available in Canada's big markets and will cover 75 per cent of the population by the end of December, the company said.

The upgrade will make the Rogers network one of the fastest in the world.

Now that Rogers is offering 3.5G, I was wondering how they are going to respond to Telus and Bell implementing their 4G network in the coming years. Also, I thought that the bold is 3.5G ready. According to the specs, the Bold supports HSDPA 3.5g. Is there a software upgrade that would need to be installed?

Off the top of my head, the only phones that use the Rogers 3.5G [now] are the HTC Touch Diamond, and some other phone (I forgot -- but not the iPhone 3G).

It'd be nice if the Bold would be able to use it too, I hadn't heard that before.

billy,

I am a T-Mobile customer (right now) but I am about to switch to AT&T...probably within the next 6 hours. I have just gotten tired of the dropped calls in my local area / lack of coverage in my region...so I have decided to take the plunge.

Also I really want a BlackBerry Bold and 3G speeds.

I switched from T-Mo to AT&T, primarily for the better network in my area, but also for the 3G. The browser on the Bold is still disappointingly slow, even over 3G. Not the network's fault - it's the BB browser that sucks. Opera Mini is pretty fast though. And receiving attachments in emails is wonderfully fast.

If you have good AT&T network coverage in your area, it's a definite good move.

is the Bold hardware capable of this? Is this something we can see in a firmware update?
