Default Made the switch. I'm getting a Curve!

Going from a Verzion 7130e to an 8320 from T-Mobile.

I'm psyched!!!

My company gets great discounts. Phone will cost me $0 after $50 mail-in rebate. I do have to pay $175 to cancel my Verizon contract early, however, so I'm looking at that as the cost of the phone. Still, my other option would have been to go to an 8830 for roughly $300 and stick with Verizon.

I'll try it out for the 15 days, but unless I have major issues with T-Mobile, I'm dumping Verizon. I do think they are the most reliable, but with the hot spot calling and the latest and greatest blackberries, I just couldn't resist anymore.

Just got shipping confirmation, so I should be playing with it by the weekend. Woohoo.

Then why did you suggest to someone that they wait for a device that may not be coming out anytime soon?

I just had a the high and low of my day in about 15 seconds.

The only reason I would leave Verizon is to get a curve and I have seriously been thinking about it, especially that I'm not under a contract.

That was just mean XBGM3R

Yes, I'm serious. I will try out the Curve first but considering I'm in the Boston area, I imagine coverage will be fine. I occasionally am an the boonies but the one place I go most often - my Mom's up in New Hampshire - I will be setting up a compatible router with their Internet connection!

I don't mind so much about losing EVDO because I don't necessarily do a ton of mobile browsing these days. More of it is RSS fees and email, which will still be fine on a slower connection, or at least it will be bearable.

Maybe you guys can help me with something.

I've talked to coworkers with T-Mobile and they report good reception. I work in the shipping industry so my coworkers are often all around the state. I still want to try it myself and I know I have 15 days to do so before being locked into the contract. My question is, when do those 15 days start? Is it from when I receive the phone or when I actually activate it?

Thanks.

I made the switch from Verizon. I love Verizon's coverage, customer support and reliability. But the 8320's UMA (calling over Wi-Fi) put my mind at ease about the possibility of not having T-Mobile signal at work, home, or when staying with friends and family. So far I do have cellular signal in those places, though.

I was out of contract but you do realize that they pro-rate contract termination fees, right? If you're near the end of your contract you'll pay peanuts to get out of it.

T-Mobile service has been great so far but I do realize it's always going to be more limited than Verizon, especially in rural areas. I do not miss the high-speed EV-DO that I once had because it was $45 and the devices Verizon offers are lethargic and terrible on battery life, rendering the internet access almost useless to me because I couldn't use it for even a few minutes without killing the battery.

My opinion on "waiting" is that you should never wait for Verizon. Look at the people who waited for the LG VX-8100. It was over a year and they crippled the life out of it. They put their rotten standard UI on it like they do all feature phones. Look at the people STILL waiting for the XV-6800, which was supposed to replace the XV-6700 *last October* and still is not out. Also consider that Verizon is never hurt by "rumors" of new devices because it keeps people on board.

Get out while you can and don't look back. Verizon will have better devices in a couple of years and then you can switch back.
