Default AUGH!! SMS issue on .419

Please Login to Remove!

Well, after reverting back to 4.7.183 on VZW due to the sms freezing that was happening with 5.0.230, I was really excited to see an official release, figuring that this issue had been solved. Not so fast...

After not doing much texting, and literally after just cleaning the older messages, in all forms, from my phone, my Tour just froze up while trying to open a text message.

This particular thread only had, at most, 10 messages in it and was one of only two text msg threads that I had on my phone, the other only had four texts.

I tried to do a battery pull and still couldn't open the message, nor the next message that was sent by the same person. Oddly enough, I could read the other message in the folder.

Anyone else had this issue??

But .419 is not actually an official release for Verizon. Right? Could something like this be the reason Verizon has held off releasing .419?

As they say in the old country... Anything is possible.

I'm not sure this is likely though, I can't imagine that one phone company is going to release an update that they know is buggy (especially since it seems more than one company has released it at this point). I was told by a VWZ CSR that the reason that no one released .230 was that there was an issue with the SMS memory alotment, specifically when you exceeded the set limit of space for messages, the phone became unstable.

I was able to move past this, I think. I haven't had an issue since, though I've only recieved a few messages but they were all from the same person that I was having trouble receiving mesages from before.

Had some initial SMS problems on my Verizon 9630 but they all seemed to clear up after removing some resident programs from memory. My conclusion is that the OS .419 is good but the 3rd party apps are a few months behind.

What specific 3rd-party apps did you have issues with?

Jive Talk and Uber Twitter, the latter being the worst. But it seems that there are so many programs nowadays that want to stay resident, but are not happy sharing this confined space. Hold down alternate-escape and see what applications are staying resident, close them one at a time until you find your happy spot.
