I had upgraded to 4.5.0.66 OS when it first showed up and everything in the OS upgraded along with it just fine, including the media player with the new controls and black background. But I had recently downgraded to 4.3 OS to try to fix another problem and then upgraded again back to 4.5.0.66 but this time the media player still has the old blue background and no new media on-screen controls!! Everything else in the OS is upgraded, HTML e-mails, Docs2Go, the Help Me screen says 4.5.0.66, etc..
I don't wanna have to downgrade and upgrade all over again to fix this. Is there a way in DM to upgrade just the media player so it is like the new version of it again?
I don't understand how the same download package I installed the first time didn't update just the media player this time, makes no sense!
Thanks in advance.
I read your post, stumps me too. Very strange. But them most of the issues with your BB this week have been strange, eh?
I have never seen an upgrade NOT upgrade the media player, as part of the upgrade process erases all data/applications from the BB device. It should have had only the new media player as a choice to install.
ha yeah they sure are strange..it never ends... still have yet to figure one of my posted problems out (Hotmail push issues, media player outdated even after 4.5 upgrade, headphone jack not working, and now Excel got deleted by DM after updating Docs2Go and adding Excel via BB..arrghh!!).
Any ideas on the media player thing? How might I go about updating it without re-doing the OS? Any way I can just install the file(s) for the 4.5 media player via DM or something? Thanks man.
To preserve SheetsToGo during an OS upgrade, you must delete or rename the "documentstogo.alx" file before you upgrade.
Look for documentstogo.alx file on your PC at c:\program files\common files\research in motion\shared\loader files\**osversion**\documentstogo.alx) and rename it DocumentsToGo.old
awesome, worked great! I just uninstalled Docs2Go and reinstalled the update and all 3 apps are there now! that's one problem solved! so how bout the rest of em lol..
Did you by any chance, in your OS upgrade, delete any cod folders in the JAVA directory on the PC?
Could you have deleted the wrong media cod, and deleted the media player cod?
I'll reinstall 4.5.0.56 on my pc and extract media player files and then replace the .66 ones with those...but which files exactly am I taking from the Java folder? There's a few with media player in the name..
well ill switch that one...hopefully there aren't additional files that go with it cause theres a bunch with media in the name. Are there files associated with the headphone jack? Cause like in my other post, my headphones won't work for anything on the BB and I haven't yet figured it out. Is there like a driver file or some COD for it or anything?
hmm, so I replaced the newer COD with the .56 COD but DM won't prompt me to upgrade anything when I go to add new apps...how do I make it see that I switched them or how do I switch the media player file that's on the device now?
damn, I'd rather try first without losing all my apps and stuff...what's the best way to reinstall the same OS that's on there now? Is there a way without downgrading to an older one first? How?
