Hello,

First, I would like to consider myself an "advanced" BlackBerry user, which is why I find this problem to be somewhat frustrating.

I just bought a new Curve 8310 (GPS model) and I have found that on any setting, Loud, Normal, etc., that the phone doesn't Vibrate or play a tune when an email is received. The phone is out of the holster, and is set to "Vibrate + Tone."

Volume is set to high, and it's set to vibrate twice before playing the tone. And yet, it neither vibrates or plays the default blackberry tone.

Quite frustrating, and it's nice to know when I receive an email!

Welcome to the BBForums.

First, look AT the profile you have selected > menu > edit and "messages" to make sure you have an actual alert set for your email.

If still a problem, I would recommend (with the BB powered on) remove the battery, hold a minute, replace and reboot the BB.

Problem still not fixed.

Well then I think you need to offer more information as to your setup... what alert is it, how long is the alert, file size, is the alert on your Device Mem or Media Card (and if on the Media Card, is the BB plugged into the USB/PC)

Did this alert ever work for the messages?

AND, do you have the alert configured for each and ever email address on your BB? Did you accidentally miss one?

What else can you offer?

The alert I have selected (set to the same for every one of my email inboxes) is Notifier_Nymph, a standard blackberry notification.

The blackberry goes off (Vibrates twice and then does the tone three times, as it's set to) with SMS, and for a phone call, so it's unique to my email.

Doesn't give the notification for any of the inboxes. Also tried used Notifier_Eager to see if that would fix the problem.

Any other ideas?

Since you didn't say, do you have the setting for BOTH in and out of holster in the profile settings?

Yes, the settings are the same for both in AND out of holster.

look im not so sure but you can try a trial and error mthod for the time being.
Setup another email account, assign a tone for it and see if th problem still persists..
If it works than try deleting your current email account on your bb and set it up again.

Finally if this dosnt work either, you always have a chanc to upgrade to the latest bb 8310 firmware..might fix that issue..

I'd recommend deleting the email account and setting it up again -- assuming that you're on BIS. You have a separate alert for the email account in question under each profile?

Just updated the BB to the latest firmware - and the issue is still there!

Every other notification works, EXCEPT email. Very frustrating.

It also says emails are received from the account "unknown," so it isn't even capturing what email it's coming from... grrrr.....

Any ideas?

Found out this issue and my "Received from: Unknown" issue were related.

A simple resending of the service books solved this issue...
