Default From Bold 9000 to 9650

Please Login to Remove!

Hello All,

Sick to death of AT&T and their network issues dealing with gazillions of iphones and ipads, I am going to make the move to Verizon.

This is all on my company's dime.

I need a phone that does international, just like the Bold 9000, and I do not have many options with Verizon BBs.

So has anyone made the transition from the 9000 to the 9650? On paper it looks like the phone is just as good, if not better. I did see that UMA is supported on the phone, but I am not clear if I will be able to use wifi for real calling, though I might be able to find a version of Skype that will work.

Thanks for any personal experiences you can pass on.
  • I use GPS heavily, so I will move from AT&T Navigator to the Verizon version.
  • I use visual voice mail heavily.
  • Company hosted email, etc.
  • Not too heavy on the cell phone minutes, but battery longevity is important due to the travel.

Thanks,
R

UMA is not supported on any Verizon phone. I can't speak to the particulars of the 9650, but out internal customers like them.

I moved from the Bold 9000 on AT&T to the 9650, but on Sprint. Better device all around, especially the trackpad. More internal memory is nice too.

I actually left my 9000 and AT&T to get the Palm Pre on Sprint. Yeah, I know. Big mistake. I lasted just long enough with the Pre to get my mail-in rebate and then I ran out to get a BlackBerry 8330m. Didn't like the keyboard so I jumped on the 9630 immediately. Much better keyboard - same style as the 9000. Now I have the 9650 and it's the finest BlackBerry I've ever used. I tried Android recently and after a couple weeks I came running back (again!) to BlackBerry and my 9650.

GPS works great with BlackBerry Maps. Sprint has a Nav feature but I've never used it.
Never used visual voicemail.
Company hosted email is superb.
Battery life is great. 2 days on a charge with light/moderate use. More than a full work day with very heavy use.

Awesome....thanks gents....

I found that Skype Mobile will work on the 9650 via wifi - it is even posted on the Verizon website that it is compatible.

Did anyone ever try this?

Regards,
R
