Which setting should be used most of the time?

Global or 1xEV?

If you are on TMobile, then you can't use 1XEV.

Maybe he has not switched his info or is just asking for a friend.

I am not sure so this is a guess. 1XEV limits you to CDMA. Global will use GSM or CDMA when you go out of the country or where there is no CDMA?

That is correct. Assuming the device is on either the Sprint or Verizon network, when traveling internationally you will switch to international services automatically.

If you are not traveling outside of the US. I would recommend that you use the 1XEV setting. This will provide you with the best reception and prevent the phone from searching for unused connections.
When you travel and want to utilize your SIM card, you can then change the setting to Global as needed.

Thank you so much for clarifying.

Posters are absolutely right. When set at Global, sometimes it changes to edge when Sprint signal is weak. Since I use a Tmobile SIM with my personal number in this BB 9650, I don't get email through Sprint's BES when phone is in edge mode.

I have to say so far this is the best solution as I have personal calls forwarded to the Sprint company phone number on the BB. If I have to make a call with my personal # show up as caller-ID, I switch network to GSM for dialing out.

Now if it's possible when someone texts my personal # to have it show up on the company Sprint BB, things will be perfect...

I am finding that the automatic setting doesn't work well. When I land in Europe I often have to select GSM and when I land back in the states I have to select 1XEV. Automatic just seems to not always make the automatic selection.
