the following carriers are listed as "supported" and available (for now) in English or Français
  • 3 Hong Kong
  • CSL Hong Kong
  • Cingular Wireless
  • Nextel Wireless
  • O2 (UK)
  • Rogers Wireless
  • Sprint
also available to choose is "My carrier does not appear below" - which is what i selected for t-mobile

recommend installation via handheld browser, as nearly all RIM dls through desktop crash, burp or stall (the dreaded 12%!)

Y! Messenger v 1.0.91 by Research In Motion, size 149384

interface looks identical to GoogleTalk, and as usual, Profiles has added tone settings - "Y!Messenger Alert" and "Y!Messenger New Message"

sign in successful, but haven't chatted yet, nor recived Y!Mail, so the alert function is also unobserved.

Alerts work well. Chatting back and forth is REAL quick - almost instant. It's as quick (sometimes seems quicker) than VeriChat and IM+ which I've also been testing.

So far I'm impressed. At first, I was disappointment that you couldn't use "predefined messages". BUT - they found a more elegant solution (IMHO). Instead of having to call up PDMs and then select from the list, the Yahoo Messenger uses the Blackberry's AUTOTEXT. So I can go define my own PDMs with shortcuts such as "bhs" = I'll be home soon...just leaving the office now." Then I don't have to call up a list, scroll, click, etc. Just type "bhs" and hit return.

Sweet.

All the YIM icons are supported as well and display on the BB (although they are not animated).

Early testing indicates that since 99% of my contacts are on YIM, I likely won't be spending the $40 annual fee for VeriChat. (I will miss some of those bots, though).

Still testing...

It is fast. Faster than IM+ as well.

I've tried to move the Blocked Buddies below all other groups, but can't. It's annoying. Any ideas if it's possible?

Yes - possibly. It supports devices with OS of 4.0 and above. But it's not working with some carriers at this time. Not all carriers support it.

Not in Options on the client I'm using.

**D/L win client and renamed the group so it dropped to bottom of list. Mac client doesn't have that feature...

It's working great for me on T-Mobile 8700g, so I would give it a try.

I agree.

By all accounts, even with t-mo not being included on the list, it seems to work just fine.

Also, t-mo has an established penchance for IM-via-SMS through their Oz transport. And given that t-mo's data allowances are the most forgiving of any carrier, I can't forsee their desire to officially support this.

In Yahoo-options the last item is a checkbox with:
[ ] Show ignored contacts

But when you click on the link and try to choose Cingular Wireless it tells you that it's not available for that carrier. Wierd - just plain wierd IMO.

Cingular just doesn't like the Blackberry. Its almost like they offer it because they have to but don't want to support it and want to rob people blind so they quit using it.

Doesn't do anything much less hide the Blocked Buddies list. Already had that Off.
