Default 7250 EVDO Bell Mobility

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,
I have installed 4.1.0.268 on my 7250. Now I cannot get EVDO to work, the best I get is 1X. Is there something to do with Bell Mobility for the 7250 to work in EVDO ?

Has anyone succeeded in having EVDO to work on Bell Mobility ?

Thanks...

Hey there,

i have the same version installed on my bell 7250 - i don't live in an EVDO area (Peterborough), so i couldn't tell you.

Where abouts do you live?

I live downtown Montreal, and the people with 7130 have evdo, so it must be a question of configuration...

I was wondering if someone tried to phone Bell Mobility to have it upgrade and the result ?

Wirelessly posted (7250/4.1.0.268, Bell Mobility: BlackBerry7250/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/109)

Although the device and 4.1 operating system are EvDO capable, you will need an updated PRL before your 7250 will operate at EvDO speeds on Bell Mobility's network.

The update is due to be released by Bell Mobility before long.

It's now listed on their businessonthego.ca site I called and the rep told me they launched the site too early. he also said he heard you would have to send your device in for flashing.... I guess I'll just wait and see.

I hope that's not the case...I wonder why they'll do that? Sprint was an automatic upgrade, I thought.
I hope he heard wrong...

I'm sure the OS upgrade will be a user-done task as it can be done through the desktop manager but PRL upgrades on Bell Blackberries are generally done at certain stores. I know the store i work at in kanata is equipped for PRL upgrades cause i got one done for a customer a few weeks ago. That's the part that will have to be done by a store.

oooh-eee.
I hope they allow users to do the PRL over the phone like Sprint.
A user just called *2, got a CSR, said, "I want a PRL update for EV-DO"
user waits 5 minutes, calls *2 again, waits, and it should say "activation successful".
some users took 15-20 tries on the second step...but we'll see.
Fingers crossed!

Someone said in another post that bell isn't equipped for the OTA PRL updates so i have my doubts that it will be that simple. Hopefully i'm wrong though bc an OTA download would be more convenient. But i'm not familiar enough with the technical support processes to say for sure, just thought i'd mention what i heard though.

I'm afraid you're bang on the money here. Right now, even though the BlackBerry devices are capable of an OTA PRL download, Bell Mobility does not have the network setup for wireless provisioning.

Wireless provisioning should start to be rolled out this year but it will start off small (MIN changes, etc.) to ensure that everything is working flawlessly.

Unfortunatly, OTA PRL download is not going to be an option anytime soon. Existing Bell Mobility customers will need to visit specific storefront locations to have their devices updated.

And its important to note that its possible that not all stores are capable of doing these updates, and in some cases only a certain technician on site is trained to make the changes. To avoid a wasted trip and the frustration that comes with it, i'd recommend calling the nearest bell world stores or service centres to find out if they can do the update and, just in case, what times the technician might be on site to perform them.

Does anyone know of any stores in or near the GTA equiped for PRL updates? The last thing I want to do is send in my BlackBerry. Heck, I'd drive down to Kanata to have the update done. No joke.

I checked with my store today (as it's my day off) and no news so far on the 7250 PRL update :(

I was at the Eaton Center location and no news. They do not even have 7250's with installed updated software.

I work at the Royal Bank plaza location in toronto, got what seems to be 1000 people asking for it. Bell is "making it simple" by not releasing any information for existing customers. Also, the new 7250e is on backorder. Date not determined.

Wink First look at the EvDO 7250 from Bell Mobility!

I'm getting my first look at one of the EvDO ready 7250 BlackBerrys from Bell Mobility right now; it was shipped as a warranty replacement for a defective 7250.

Dialing #HELP* reveals the following notable differences:

1) Device Software Version: 4.1.0.303
2) PRL Version: 31012
(this is in comparison to 30378 on my older unit)

Unfortunatly, I'm not in an EvDO area and cannot test that functionality at this time. Another interesting point: all of Bell Mobility's new advertising shows the 7250 with the same style of theme as is present on the 7130e; however, this unit has only the default 7250 theme available.
