Hi all

On the contrary to the last of my postst it turns out the blue component is most likely to be a capacitor..

How long ago have you soldered the connection points together? I realy hope it wil work that way, that would save a whole lot of trouble!!

I would not suggest putting a "tin bridge" in place of the missing component. Electrical engineers designed and put the original component there for a reason.

I also doubt the tin bridge is a perfect solution. Therefor I'm looking for a bb 9000 bold that went swimming or fell into an obyss so i can solder the piece off an mesure it, this is the only way to figure out the right value of the component. So if anyone knows anyone with a very very broken BB 9000 bold I would realy like to get my hands on it!

solder bridge along the two pads is fine, most general fuse repairs on boards are done this way lol.

I'm from Brazil and I have put together a BBBold 9000 that had the same problem. Just soldered the two points where the component was missing. BINGO!
He returned to work perfectly. But let's see how long. I'll post good or bad news as soon as any.

I have this same problem.

The phone is defiantly unlocked as all the settings on the SIM card are set to "Disabled". I got a brand new SIM card from Vodaphone yesterday, yet it still does not recognize the Sim. I have wiped the phone, done numerous battery pulls, yet to no avail. Would reinstalling the software or updating making any difference? As the phone is unlocked i don't see what else i can do?


The SIM is a £35 p/m contract that was originally bought with a Storm, could it be this that is stopping the SIM working seen as the phone was exclusive to the network?

I just wanted to say thank you for this thread. I bought the nightmare Blackberry from hell on EBay. It was SIM locked (thank you MML loader ) but I also found it had the no SIM error.

Under a microscope and with a meter I found the blue link was open circuit and a Google search found this thread.

Bridging the blue link fixed the phone 100%. I suspect the link is simply just that a link and not a fuse or a resistor as there are other examples on the board and they have no markings and zero resistance.

I would have thrown this phone back at the seller and made a PayPal claim but I already contested its non arrival and closed the case when it turned up seemingly working. I failed to check it with a SIM which was stupid and as I closed the claim that option is no longer available. Any bridging the blue link saved the day.

I had the same problem: used a pen to remove the SIM-Card and - by accident - broke the described contact. Error in German (just for the people who search for Blackberry and Sim Karte kann nicht gelesen werden in Google)

A Blackberry Help-Center here in the south of Berlin explained (AFTER paying 40 Euros for that) that it is IMPOSSIBLE to repair the BB while making me the offer to swop the broken BB against a used one for 280 Euros.

So I found this page, bought the special screw driver, made a tin bridge as described and voila.

You are perfect. Thank you for this information.

Just have to stop now because I am getting a call on my self repaired BB

I have the same problem aswell i just bought a blackberry 9000 off ebay and checked the same blue chips and i think it needs soldering also im not good at that type of thing if there's anyone in the new york/new jersey area that can do it please e-mail me at ...Im goin on vacation from the 22nd of this month so i would like to use it.....thanks much.

I update my BB from 4.xx (don't know) to 5.0.0.348. Everything was fine until I insert my SIM in phone; no i get the msg "Insert SIM Card" & at signal SOS. At MOBILE NETWORK OPTIONS, Data Service is ON; While Roaming is ON to. Mobile Network have the correct provider, Network Selection Mode is AUTOMATIC, if I chose MANUAL then get error "Scan for network failed. Please try again later" & Network Mode have "3G&2G". Have another 2 options "3G" or "2G". That's all. Phone is not locked; Checked Advanced Option - Sim Card - MEPD; all are DISABLED. When I turn off & then back on Mobile Network then get a signal for 1-2 second but then it goes back to "SOS mode" :((((. Read all possible forums but didn't managed 2 find a solution :(. Installed another vers (4.6) the same problem :(((. Can you please help me guys

P.S.S. bouth the phone from a guy & everything was ok; used it already aprox 2 months. Every time I install new OS recieve at MESSAGES a msg from Orange France - "Bienvenue ..............." & long txt in france :(. I'm from Romania & have just Romanian SIM providers (Vodafone & Orange)

my blackberry bold 9000 starts up well not long been updated... works when it feels like it sometimes goes to SOS and the signal doesnt reset it self when traveling....on 02 i took the phone apart and got a screwdriver took the sim out and bend the prawns that the sim tuches up and it dont go to sos now it just dont reset when traveling....CAN any 1 help ????
