Default 7230 Blank Screen & Flashing LED only!!!

Please Login to Remove!

Have been given a 7230 that hasn't been used for at least 6 months. Tried charging and turning it on but all I get is a blank screen and a LED flashing.

2 flashes - 2 second pause - 2 flashes.

Tried using Desktop Manager...it appears the unit is partially alive. Desktop Manager always shows a Disconnected state but some interaction occurs when I try reloading the OS via Application Loader. When App Loader is launched it defaults to USB if the 7230 is connected to the PC - so it must be able to detect the 7230. Clicking Next momentarily brings up the Read Handheld Configuration screen. Then the Handheld App Selection appears with BB 4.0 Sys Software & BB 4.0 Core Apps set to be installed. Clicking Next then Finish brings up the Updating Handheld screen with pointer on the first line "Load JVM and system software". The Progress bar, displaying "Erasing Applications" at the bottom gets 2/3 done and then freezes for about 40 seconds. The next screen to appear says:

Unable to complete the loading operation.

A fatal error has occured while updating your handheld's software. Please try again.

Handheld communications error encountered. [A:0x0000000E]

Sometimes the error is [A:0x00000025].

Also tried using "Javaloader.exe -u wipe -a -f " but always get:

Connecting to device...Error: unable to open port

Even tried timing the launch of Javaloader with holding the unit in reset with a paper clip. Same result however Javaloader seems to be doing something as the error message doesn't appear for about 5 seconds.

Any ideas? Is there a sequence I should try with Javaloader and the reset button? When this Backberry was last used it was working OK. Leaving it in a fully discharged state for many months may be the cause of its current state???

Try to load the firmware using the following command line:
Code:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader\Loader.exe /nojvm
This helped me in the past to reinstall the firmware on BBs with similiar problems (only flashing LED).

Follow up...

Tried Loader.exe /nojvm and got the same result. What is the significance of "/nojvm"? Running Loader.exe seemed to be identical to running Application Loader from the Desktop Manager.

Have also tried using Desktop Manager with Windows 2000 PC and a Windows XP PC. Again same results.

If I monkey with the Battery or Reset Switch I get the "[A:0x00000025]" error code when trying App Loader. This seems to be a complete no-comms error. The [A:0x0000000E] error seems to be something related to no response from the 7230 during the "Erasing Applications" phase of "-> Load JVM and system software."

Any other suggestions? This Blackberry may be destined for the Dumpster...

Thank you.

Default Same issue here....

Have you found a solution yet? I have the exact same symptoms including the red light and the following error during application loader:

A fatal error has occurred while updating your handheld's software. Please try again.

Handheld communications error encountered. [A:0x0000000E]

When I try to run javaloader to do anything I get the following error:

RIM Wireless Handheld Java Loader
Copyright 2001-2005 Research In Motion Limited
Connecting to device...debug: COM error during Open: (0x407710) j hïxxx8252;A
Error: unable to open port

If I unplug the BB my error is a simple "unable to open port" which leads me to conclude that my pc is talking to the BB and then barfing.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

TIA,

RB

I do not know exactly what /nojvm does, but it helped me often to fix BBs with 2 flashes - 2 second pause - 2 flashes. Another trick you could try is:
Close Desktop Manager
Start loader.exe from C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader\
Click on "Next"
Reset the BB using the rest hole under the battery door
Connect the BB while the red led is turned on (you have to be very quick when doing this)
When you see "Connection: USB:UNKNOWN" click "Next"
The loader should connect to your BB and you can update the firmware

If the process fails at the first try, repeat it. If you are not used to this procedure it can take some trys to find the right timing.

Thumbs up Thanks a lot

I had a similar problem and this helped me get my BB back. T-mobile had written it off and wanted me to upgrade to a new device.

You guys are great.

Did anyone solve the problem? I got the same issue, but the cellphone was 7130T.Seconds it was working well, but suddenly when take it out the jacket, the LED flashed 2 times then screen flash once. I try to wipe but failed to open the port. Try the loader to set the OS, the same code as above [A:0x0000000E].
Oh, my god, could anybody give a hand? Help me , thank you!
