Angry 8320 Curve rebooting during phone calls ....

Please Login to Remove!

My new 8320 keeps rebooting during my phone calls. I'm talking to somebody, it goes silent, I look at the phone and the little hour glass is spinning. I checked with T-Mobile and I have the latest software - 8.2.2.180 . Anybody else having this problem?

Thanks.

When I was running 4.2.2.180, i was not noticing those problems. Are you on edge, EDGE, uma or UMA when the reboots are happening? Do you have a Memory Card installed?

I would say that most of the time, maybe all the time, its happened while on EDGE. And yes, I have a 4G card installed.

Well here is my $.02. If it is really new then take it back to the T-mo store you got it from and get a new one(its not worth the fuss and hassle). If its not within the first 14 days of purchase then I would say is hard reset the bb and if that doesn't work then reload the os. I don't think this is a common problem so I would say you might have a faulty product.

And hard reset just involves removing the battery for a few seconds, right?

Same thing happens to me. Luckily I bought it less than 30 days ago and Costco will give me a new one (I hope).

I am having this same issue on UMA, uma, EDGE and GPRS. Yes I travel alot with my 8320. I too have a 4 gig card, and I have taken the card out and still have had this issue. The phone will hard reboot itself at any random time, you will look down and there the screen is on and white with the T Mobile logo coming on. This is my 2nd unit that does this and my 3rd 8320 from them. My phone will reboot on avg 8 times a day currently.

Very frustrating!

Turn off Wi-Fi? That's harsh. Makes the device about half useless.

I'd return that sucker. Resetting 8 times a day - you might as well not even have the device.

Sounds like the common denominator is your memory card. Try without it or a different one.

I get the same results with or without a memory card.

Returning the item for another unit is next in line. Turning off wifi is NOT an option, as I need UMA!

This most recent phone is running v. 4.2.2.180. Previous version experienced the same results.

Thanks for the help

Default Consistent reboots

My T-Mobile 8320 Curve, running 4.2.2.180 consistently resets itself--but only in the middle of phone calls.

I have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth DISABLED (and always have). Wherever this happens I have 4-5 bars of signal strength. When I say "resets", I mean that the call ends, the screen goes black, then it comes up with an hourglass and reboots as if I had taken the battery out. It takes about 2 full minutes for the phone to get back to working condition.

The battery is seated firmly, so it is not an issue of loose connections.

When I called T-Mobile about this, the rep told me that she also had a Curve, and that the best thing to do was to pull the battery once a day to hard reset the phone. A different rep told me to back-up the phone, completely wipe it, and reinstall only the base software. Sounds like a great plan, except 1) I don't have access to a Windows machine where I can load the software, 2) I should be able to uninstall the offending software directly from the phone, and 3) a "business" machine running only standard software should not crash in the middle of phone calls--I should not need to do this AT ALL.

As far as I'm concerned, either solution is just completely unacceptable. I (try to) use this thing for business, but it's really hard to seem professional when not only does your call drop, but it takes 2 full minutes (at least) for the phone to reboot.

This thing seems to be only slightly better than my old Treo 700p in terms of stability; I'm very upset with it and would HIGHLY discourage ANYONE from buying an 8320.

Any tips on how I can get T-Mobile to give me a new blackberry that will actually work? I figure I'm paying an extra $6 a month for an extended warranty, I should get something out of it....

Go to the T-Mobile store and tell them what has been happning. If you do a search of the forums under "curve reboot call" you will see that the owners who had the same problems exchanged their phones with TMobs.

I noticed this thread and wanted to chime in... This has happened to me in the recent past also, but I never could get a handle on it either. It has not happened in a few weeks or so, but my thought on it was always that it had to do with what apps i had loaded in memory at the time. I thought it may also have something to do with the theme I was running and/or the programs I had loaded, conflicting. I went thru all kinds of trouble shooting, but then could never re-produce the problem. I suggest to those who are following this thread and have this issue, to list your themes and apps you are running to find a common denominator hopefully...
