That's just how it is. Same could be said of a cordless home phone.

Turning off key tones only turns off the DTMF tones that you can hear in the earpiece as you dial. What you are hearing is something different and cannot be disabled.

Are you sure you'll have reception in the closet anyway?

And the odd thing is, that seems to be carrier-controlled. For example, my AT&T devices never did that. But Verizon's do.

When I set my profile to "Quiet" the DTMF tones aren't heard.

That's what we're saying. It's the "out loud" tones that continue to sound, similar to the old bag phones from years ago.

You can always put your finger over the speaker opening and muffle the sound. Hell, it's only one key you have to press to call 911.

And I'm saying the "out loud" tones don't sound in Quiet mode on my Verizon phone. Isn't that what the OP is complaining about?

There aren't any other sounds coming from the keyboard other than the "click" of the key when it is pressed. Any intruder who would hear that coming from a closed closet would have to have superhuman hearing and would probably hear your breathing and/or heartbeat too.

There aren't any tones on Alltel, either, when the phone is using the Quite or the Vibrate profile.

My Verizon 8330 doesn't make any noise when in quiet profile and dialing phone numbers. Maybe it's part of the .97 OS? I think it used to make tones when dialing when I was running .89.
