Hotkey to Toggle Ringer/Vibrate?
Please Login to Remove!
On my Pearl, I could press and hold the right shift key to toggle between ringer and vibrate. Does the Curve (8320) have a similar hotkey?

Anyone? I find it puzzling RIM would offer this feature on the Pearl but not on the Curve??

The closest I could find was to set up my right convenience key to select ringer profiles. It's one extra step but from there you can select from loud, vibrate, quiet, etc

I agree this seems like a strange omission. I too went from a Pearl to a Curve and miss this feature. Oh well - not the end of the world, but it was a nice shortcut!

On a lot of the themes, there is a 'Profiles' icon on the home screen that you can access and select what profile you want active.

I know about the Profiles screen...
The hotkey is great because you can press it to turn on vibrate before putting your BB in your pocket and press it again to turn the ringer back on while it's sitting in the charger. All without scrolling through menus.

I agree with FourtyEightFan. 2 weeks ago I switched from the Pearl to the Curve and the biggest thing I miss is the vibrate hotkey. Especially since I go to a lot of meetings. I mean, it SHOULD have been as easy as just programming one of the keys to change it between vibrate or ring if you hold it for about 5 seconds.
THAT would be a great program for one of the many talented programmers out there!!! :D

If you have dial from home screen off then you can hit F, V, Enter in rapid succesion and change to vibrate. Same thing for Loud- hit F, L, Enter. That's what I do.

I really miss the ability to do this from my old LG. I have found a pretty convenient way of doing this though, but it does require using the Today theme.
If you move you trackball all the way to the right it will highlight the profile icon in the upper right hand corner of the screen, click the trackball and voila, the profile list pops up and you can select vibrate or normal.
It's the not as good as a 1-button solution but it is the best I have found so far.

My Treo has a mute button on top that changes the profile from ring to vibrate, but I'm not sure why the mute button of the BB doesn't do the same. BB calls it the mute button, but it puts the phone on standby instead. I'm a bit puzzled. To me, it is intuitive to program this button to toggle from ring to vibrate and vice versa. However, AFAIK, this mute button cannot be changed to anything else like the other 2 side buttons. Taking 3 or more keystrokes to change such a simple feature is unacceptable. This needs to be fixed on the next stable OS.

The Blackberry functions differently from the Treo because it's a different phone, different OS and different manufacturer. I am not entirely sure what there is to be puzzled about. At the risk of offending you (not my intent), I understand that it is not as convenient as you may like, but c'mon, it's only three keystrokes. If it's that big of an issue, there is always the Treo platform.

Actually there are quite a few shortcut keys available.
K - lock
L - Calendar
T - Tasks
D - Memo Pad
M - Messages
N - BB Messenger
R - Alarm
U - Calculator
O - Options
P - Phone log
S - Search
F - Profiles
H - Help
C - Compose
A - Addressbook
V - Saved Messages
B - Browser
These shortcuts allow me to use my convenience keys for apps that don't have shortcuts like SMS/MMS.

Ever find the app? I really miss the one-button vibrate toggle, and don't want to give up my convenience keys.
