Question How to remove bold trackball in order to then clean?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I can't seem to find anyone who says how to remove the trackball from a blackberry bold in order to then clean around it, so it won't stick -- i.e. going beyond blowing and cleaning the trackball.

I don't see an easy way of getting in there without running the risk of breaking something....

And then will it be a hassle to put it back together?

Anyone?

Technically you cannot remove the trackball yourself without voiding the warranty. You must completely disassemble your device to get to the trackball assembly. To be honest it is not difficult. I swapped out the stock silver bezel, buttons, battery cover latch and white trackball for black replacements without much trouble. Removing the screws involves removing a small sticker placed in the hole of one of the screws, voiding the warranty should you ever return it for repair missing that sticker.

I have seen at least one or two discussions on these forums about trackball maintenance and cleaning. I came across numerous How-Tos online for removing/replacing a Bold trackball as I prepared to do my blackout/stealth project on my Bold.

I have successfully used alchohol on a cloth or cotton swab, and then blow with compressed air. Cured the problem.
