I found that you-tube is very os dependant.

The lower versions including .162 didn't do it very well.

The .185+ seem to do a better job of it.

There is also a setting in options, general properties, uncheck the box marked switch to wap for steaming media.
I couldn't agree more. While running .167, youtube sucked no matter what connection I was running(EDGE, 3G, or WiFi); but since updating to .185 it plays well even on an EDGE connection with very little buffering.

For me, youtube only works when wi-fi is off (over 3G). My wi-fi connection is good (I am able to browse using wi-fi after I turn off my wireless connection) but when it's on, I cannot view videos either from youtube or metacafe.

Smile Youtube on Bold -- Yes, you can!

I think the fix for most folks is in the tcp settings. Got to options->advanced_options->tcp.

guys,

i had same problem for months. i just got this solution from another forum.
i followed the steps and yes...obama! yes...we can!

hope you guys will solve the problems.

For AT&T providers only :

if your apn is set to wap.cingular then youtube wont work. My phone was shipped this way. Set the apn to isp.cingular and leave the username and password blank. You may need to reboot, but I can now watch most videos from m.youtube.com.

For other providers look at this for the correct apn settings :

blackberryforums.pinstack.c om/f24/tcp_apn_wap_gateway_and_port_carrier_settings-360/]TCP]Pinstack.com | oops![/url], APN, WAP, Gateway and Port Carrier Settings - PinStack.c om

If i type in default browser YouTube - Broadcast Yourself. it takes me to youtube site and when I click to open a video it asks me whether I want to switch to WAP for optimal viewing. However it does not work. What is best solution for youtube videos? The youtube app I used to have was just a shortcut :(

I had the "Java script off...upgrade Adobe Flash ...." error when I tried to get something streaming on my BBBold. I switched from Internet Browser to MediaNet and Voila! It worked.
Fast, clear and good sound.

And it worked on 3G, WiFi and 3G + WiFi

As far as I am aware, blackberry does not support flash lite, hence not able to install the flash update. If you want to watch youtube videos do it from one of the available clients.

HOWEVER, due to the way the videos are compressed they may lookrubbish depending on connection type.

I have been playing with this for a little while now and have finally figured it out.

Make sure that you have this setting checked:
Within the browser menu -> options -> general properties -> switching to wap for streaming media

Once I did this, I restarted my browser and tested it out on a random m.youtube.com video and it worked!

I didn't have to play around with the apn settings but just in case, I'm on Rogers Wireless (Canada):
APN Settings Enabled
APN: internet.com
APN Authentication Enabled
Username for APN: wapuser1
Password for APN: wap

That should do it.

I don't know what it is but I am just not able to get youtube to work on my 9000 with .247 OS. Its not that critical, but just to know that I can't seem to make it work, gets me thinking that something must be wrong somewhere.

Oh well.

I had the same problem with .247, and it wasn't that important for me either. I probably had .247 loaded for a few weeks before I noticed. The problem is fixed in .266.

Try Vision.

Vision: Youtube Client for BlackBerry OTA Download | PocketBerry

It's the best Youtube client for Bold I have found so far.

Ok, so now I believe that I may have a reason to upgrade to .266. We'll see.

Decided that I would not go through with an OS update just for YouTube which I don't even use much, so I'm staying with .247 until a stable 5.0 comes out. I downloaded the Vision app suggested by ahksim, but that didn't work. The app looked great and was very fast, but it too gave me an error, so I guess the YouTube issue could be a .247 OS issue. I can forgo that for the time being.
