Please Login to Remove!

Hi There,
First of all Newbee to BB world,
How can i confirm that BB is using wifi network or 3G NW.
what boswer settings should be Hotspot/ Blackberry.

Basically I wanted to use wifi connection for downloads etc on BB while 3G NW is online.
i turned my Wifi on and connected can see on device, browser settings has been chagned to Hotspot browser, but not sure BB is using wifi or 3G NW.

how can i cross check which NW is used for browsing internet when i am home.

Thanks in advance!

While in the browser press U. At the top of the screen it will either say 3G ir WIFI. That is how it is connected to the internet.

I found this post By citrus "This is not the case. To use wifi, you must manually choose the hotspot browser, i know, its stupid, i wish it would use it automatically if available too.

if anyone doubts what im saying, do this simple test. leave it on internet browser, make sure you are on wifi, and browse to What Is My IP Address? - IP Address Lookup, Internet Speed Test, IP Info, plus more on your bb, it will NOT be the ip address that your wifi is on (meaning you cable/dsl/etc provider) but rather some other address, probably that of a rogers proxy.

i proved this by going to whatismyip What Is My IP Address? - IP Address Lookup, Internet Speed Test, IP Info, plus more on my computer on the same wifi lan, and that did show the proper ip."""

If you have a Blackberry Data Plan, it does use it automatically, not so stupid.

From the Home Screen press the Blackberry menu key and scroll to Manage Connections,

Make sure there is a tick in Wi-Fi

Next, scroll down to Set Up Wi-Fi Network

Click Next

Click on Scan for networks

Select the network you want to connect to (Must be infrastructure, Ad-Hoc is not supported)

Select the encryption type for the wireless access point and enter the pass phrase

Save the details to the device

The second part is configuring the Browser to connect via Wi-Fi:

Open the browser,
Press the Blackberry menu key
Go to Options

Go To Browser configuration

Change the Browser at the top to Hotspot Browser

Press the back arrow key

Open General Properties

Change the Default Browser to Hotspot Browser

Press the back arrow and save your changes.

The Bold should now be configured to connect over the Wi-Fi connection, if you want to switch back to the Blackberry connection, in the Browser just press the Blackberry menu key and select Start BB Connection.

IS THIS USING WIFI BY DEFAULT IN WIFI ZONE or USING DATA USAGE PLAN!!!! STILL CONFUSED

Check wi-fi is on.
let it connect, should show white icon.
then open browser.
If at the top you see a line which says wi-fi and shows signla, it IS connected via wi-fi.
if you dont see a signal at the top, press U. this will show the signal and wi-fi.
If it says GRPS/EDGE/3G then it is using the data connection.

its simple.
