Default How much data do you use?

Please Login to Remove!

i'll be getting my first blackberry (Bold) hopefully at my door sometime next week. and rogers has a new value pack that includes:
10,000 SMS/MMS
caller Id
voicemail
500mb of data

I was wondering is 500mb is enough for light to moderate usage. I know they have data compression so i was wondering how effective it is and how much you all use!

Can't wait to become an addict!
any great apps you recommend is also welcome!

you may want to get more data. The data is for email AND surfing the internet. If you surf the net a lot and get emails (10 or 15 a day), you're going to go over your 500mb cap. pay a few bucks more and get the unlimited.

I've hit 1 gig before, but I'm kind of hardcore. Viigo is a data PIG.

Mikey83: Streaming Sirius? How are you doing that?

Wirelessly posted (9000)

Never paid any attention, because I have an unlimited plan, but I imagine a lot because I use my BB a lot.

The WiFi should transfer a bit of my usage off AT&T's network.....

I recently switched my Bold to the 5GB tethered plan and have been using Mini Monitor to watch my usage. So far, over the past 2 weeks I have used 30MB, inluding 45 minutes of Internet usage via tethering, maybe 1,000 messages, Google Maps.

This is assuming Mini Monitor is accurate ;)

I completely disagree. 500 mb is WAY more than enough for light to moderate usage. I have 6 gigs and I don't think I've ever used more than 50 megs. Granted I don't browse much, but I do occasionally, and get a good amount of emails, and use google maps sometimes.

I really don't think you have anything to worry about unless you're really hardcore like these guys ^^.

Either way, just don't go insane on your first month, and see how much you use. Then just go from here. I highly doubt you'll even go over 100 unless you use it like crazy.

And don't tether :P

By the way how much is that value pack?

I pay $15 for the smartphone value pack (2500 texts, voicemail, caller id, who called etc) and $30 for the 6 gigs.

i have unlimited with O2 in the uk which after loads of asking around turns out to be really unlimited unlike everything else in uk that is branded with said name. this month so far from the 5th to the 26th i have used 78Mb. I am always on my bold browsing, IMing and receiving attachments. probably not as much as everyone else, but still i think 500mb is quite a considerable amount of data for an average user. i try to use as much data as i can cos i have nothing better to do really as i am at university. the only app i find heavy on the download is google maps as a few minutes on the motorway will used 5mb.

Until i find a torrent manager for my bold i do not see myself ever exceeding 200mb

p.s. if anyone knows of a torrent manager, or anything to download with for my BB i would be very grateful

thanks

Well I just got off the phone with a Rogers rep and it depends now if you want BIS or BES. They now separate their BB data plans. The lowest you can go on Rogers and BES is $45 for 1GB for BIS it's 300 MB for $30. The reason I called was that I got a SMS message saying I was $100 above and over my normal bill amount.. I lost it considering the company was footing the bill for my device. I started to think back over the month to what the hell I downloaded to get that kind of charge. Then I found that I was on a 1MB plan for $40 a month that was from 2005. Would you like to upgrade that to our new plan that has 1 GB transfer for $45 and no contract extension. I'm like ahhh yeah upgrade it Ill pay the $5 for the extra 1023 MB a month. They made it retro active so that it would cover the overages for the month as the ass hats never told me there was a better plan... how nice of them.

All I can say is wow I was at 12 MB for half a month and I am a tech with BES I use BeeJive IM and I love to surf so unless you do a ton of surfing I would find it really hard to break the 300 mark again depending on what you do. I use my device a lot but I'm not addicted.

I am on a 150 MB generic data plan i never go over it. I recive about 30 emails a day using gmail mobile, Jivetalk is always singed in with two accounts, I do moderate browsing with opera mini, have Viigo update every 30 minutes and use google maps ocasionally. Based on the MiniMoni, I use about 120 MB per month. I think you are safe with 500MB plan cause BIS data is also compressed

I am on an Unlimited Plan @ S$63 + $25 for Voice (300 mts of outgoing calls within Singapore are free - INcoming is always free).

Provider is M1.

Ever since I got my Bold, my Laptop has "magically" converted itself into a Desktop. Now if only iSkoot would work for Skype IM on the Bold --- so far, no luck

Cheers,
Krish

500MB is more than enough for BB usage unless you plan on streaming radio, etc.

Unfortunately OP is with Rogers (ROBBERS) Wireless... no unlimited packages here. In fact, our prices are near criminal...

On the bright side, Rogers did lower their packages prices a few weeks ago and now has a data protection feature - max overusage charge of 100.00 if you have a data plan.
