I've only left the MSN transport running and I am using nedbsd.nl; very satisfied with the stability.

I tried running the Yahoo transport on the same server but never had it working consistently.

these steps worked as expected for MSN, but i am receiving "Error 502: Remote server error" when attempting to set up the Yahoo! agent.

haven't been able to find anything about anywise at Miranda's forums, and goog searches are lean on the help factor, but rife with integers and non-arabic letters.

any other users having this issue, or better yet - know how to correct it?

It's a learning experience, that's for sure! But nice to be able to run GoogleTalk on the BB and getting the other IMs to work. All without having to set the APN (cha-ching) in the TCP settings on the BB.

I'm using aim.jabber.anywise.com and msn.jabber.anywise.com. The AIM transport goes up and down, but has been improving (Sometimes when I set availability as AWAY, AIM tunes in!). The MSN transport sticks.

I see your point about Miranda and the screaming logged on message from two different locations. That’s driving me nuts.

Initially I found to like Miranda better for the ease of setup. I just couldn’t figure out how to setup Psi correctly at first.

Thanks for the tips.

Thanks, I’ll try that server and see if there are any differences for me. AIM acts buggy with whatever server I’ve used thus far.

I've been using njs.netlab.cz for AIM and works great. I'm still having issues with getting Yahoo setup and I have tried different servers. I might have got Yahoo working today but will test that out later when I'm home.

I use AIM for the most part anyway so Yahoo isnt that big of a deal. But I have had great stability, and I've stayed logged on all day (with chatting) and barely affects the battery. This is in comparison to Verichat, Yak-on, IM+, Ramble....which so far I see no comparison as to those eat up the battery pretty easily. I logged on GT at 8am this morning, talked to a few people, its now 4:10pm and I still have full bars (85%) with some browsing/email as well.

I've changed transports to deepdarc.com. AIM and MSN are working much better.

I did unregister from anywise.com, but aim.jabber.anywise likes to remind me I'm no longer registered. Well, "duh!" I've tried using PSI's XML Console to also remove authorization.

<iq type='set' to='aim.jabber.anywise.com'>
<query xmlns='jabber:iq:roster'>
<item jid='aim.jabber.anywise.com' subscription='remove'/>
</query>
</iq>

<iq from="aim.jabber.anywise.com" type="error" to="username@gmail.com/Psi" >
<error type="cancel" code="501" >
<feature-not-implemented/>
</error>
</iq>

Does anyone have a solution for logging on to AIM or a similar IM service along these same lines...but running a Mac instead of a Windows PC? Using iChat or some other Mac based Jabber app.

I liked the Psi way of doing it. It worked great for me. I didn't have any issues like I did with the Miranda way.

Yes!
Not sure of the technicalities... but once you do your stuff in Miranda, and then login to GT on your BB, the contacts show up!

Default How to register a transport...

When using PSI you can select Service Directory from the General menu drop down. The attached image shows the dialogue box.

psi_register.jpg

Enter the URL of the dot.com you want to use for the transports. If successfully connected to the server a list of services will display. In this case, you can highlight the AIM Transport and pick Register (key icon). This will bring up another dialogue box for you to enter your AIM screenname and password. When registration is successful, the buddy list will populate.

The buddies will have @aim.deepdarc.com added to them. These can be renamed if you want.

When you log into GoogleTalk for Blackberry, it will populate the list there.

Hope this helps,
Steve

Ok, I followed the author's instructions on the initial post - got my registration confirmation, fired up the 8700, and all my AIM contacts are showing up (I only registered AIM via the aim.jabber.anywise.com method)

However every last one of them is showing offline - and I know for a fact quite a few ARE online.

I then fired up Miranda on my desktop, selected Jabber--Agents, and in my Registered Jabber transports it's giving me an 'offline' status for aim.jabber.anywise.com. I clicked the 'log on' button, and it grey's out - still shows offline status :(

Is this why my contacts are showing offline on my BB? How can I fix this issue?

Thanks.

Whenever I think the trasports aren't in sync, I change my Status (Available/Busy) back and forth on the Google Talk application on my BB.

Wakes it up I suppose. This was one reason I switched from anywise to deepdarc.

I went the deepdarc route via Miranda, and AIM has been active and stable since last night. Thanks for the tip, Steve.
