9800 - CJK Files - COD and ALX

Just added the CJK language files and updated the necessary parameters so that it won't throw an error for the 9800. I used the 9700 CJK files and updated a few parameters to make it work. I need someone to host the file for me since it is around 8 MB zipped file.

No additional work is necessary on your end!!

I upgraded it and loaded up the 6.0.0.161 OS with it and had no problems loading it on my BB Torch. I am attaching the zipped file for ppl to use.

Obviously ... you put the 'CJK.alx' file in the following folder for XP:

Ex: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\9800M_v6.0.0.161_P6.4.0.75

Note: Your OS folder will be different than mine of course.


You put ALL the CJK-related cod-extension files (anything with a COD file type goes) in the following folder for XP that you take from the Java folder from the zipped file and transfer to the equivalent folder below:

Ex: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\9800M_v6.0.0.161_P6.4.0.75\Java

Hi. I have the same problem. I coped the CJK.ALX and the COD files into the respective directories. Can yo utell me what parameters/files you updated since I cannot get the Apploader to accept the language files?

ZIP attachment file was too big, I need to trim it down to only use the Chinese cod files. One thing of note is that when you do copy the cod files from 9700 OS, you need to make sure that the CJK.alx file is referring to the series as <series="talladega"> instead of <series="Onyx"> do a search for Onyx and you'll know what I mean in the 9700-based alx and then compare to how the syntax is for a 9800-based alx.

Make sure all references are updated to 9800 in any of the file name you are using when copying the cod filenames since there are a few files that still reference 9700.

The version I can email you includes all the necessary changes but currently only allows viewing Chinese language, I am working on figuring out why only specific Chinese input languages display using the Apploader but not the full set of Chinese languages.

Jeepers, just reading Chinese will be sufficient for me right now as about 1/3 of the contact list cannot be read right now...

If you don't mind, can you guide me thru on how to proceed with this?

You need to copy the Chinese cod files from a 9700 OS and then change a few parameters in the CJK.alx file and also rename a few of the 9700 Chinese cod files from 9700 to 9800.

That pretty much sums things up in a nutshell. If that is more complicated than what you are comfortable with doing, just email me through the BBF and I will email you the zip files with all the changes done. All you would need to do is just put the cod files in the Java folder and the CJK.alx file in the main folder.

A few ppl have gotten the zip file from me since the one I had zipped up was too big to upload here. I can see if I can strip it down to a smaller file size by removing some other language files like Japanese, Korean and Thai.

OK seems I can't get the Pinyin Chinese input language to display but I have no probs with having Japanese, Korean, Thai show up with the input languages. Guess I will have to try again to see.

Sent out the zipped files to a few more ppl to test. Let me know feedback. Also just PIN me to or add me to your BBM. I think for the BB Torch, RIM might have gone a diff approach to adding Chinese input. I don't use Chinese input but have family members that do so let me know how everything works out.

This is a follow up for ppl looking to get Japanese input languages, it does not seem to work but for all I know the BB Torch might use a common AZERTY keyboard and guess at your word based on the characters you chose to display the possible word you would need to type.

Yea ... it does not allow you to have BoPoMoFo or Pinyin Chinese Input options which I haven't figured out why. Also the Japanese input function doesn't work either. I wonder if RIM is trying something different when doing the CJK languages.

You should download the latest official release of OS 6:

Follow the instruction to install the OS on your PC.

Before you connect your BB to the PC, copy CJK.alx to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\9800E_v6.0.0.141_P6.4.0.64 and the rest of the cod files to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\9800E_v6.0.0.141_P6.4.0.64\Java.

Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader, delete the Vendor.xml file.

Connect BB to your PC and double click Loader.exe and follow the onscreen instruction. Remember not to choose Japanese and Korean as I only include the files required to read Chinese.

Are you sure you are asking for the right thing since your device model says the 8700g? Remember, that these files are for the BlackBerry 9800.

Also, the instructions in the 1st post is for XP but I found out that Windows 7 and Vista most likely place it in a similar location. As with people who don't see a 'Loader' file folder, it is most likely because you haven't actually downloaded and installed a BlackBerry OS on you machine yet. As with 'milmil888' instructions, the official AT&T download for the 9800 OS is at the link below:

He has also provided the upload for the files but you need to follow the directions closely and do the modifications exactly in order for things to work.
