FYI in my recent alltel bill was a seperate sheet confirming the rumors of verizon takin over alltel so it is going happen at end of this year! Kinda stinks IMO. I have been with alltel since they were 360 going on 15 or 20 years I hear verizon has terrible customer support! Any comments from ya'll on this??? or can you tell me what new benifits I can except other than higher prices????

You can expect disabled GPS but a great network. It's the network. Just the network.

Don't have GPS now.. Will there be any newer OS offered? And do you think prices will remain them same? They will have to honor new contracts with alltel right? And would you plz tell me the benefits of Verizon?

I'm the wrong person for that. I'll let a Verizon user tell you.
Oh, and your Alltel 8330 does have GPS. You can use it with Google Maps, Blackberry Maps or other GPS services.

GPS is a signal received from the satelites to locate your position. The "pay for gps" they are referring to is the Nav application they provide. It uses the GPS receiver in your BB to locate you in their application. You can use the GPS signal for any GPS enabled applications. Hope that clears that up.
/off topic.

How often do you really call CS? My guess is probably not that often.

Verizon customer service has been good to me every time that I have called. What I have read says that Alltel customers spend 1 to 2 dollars more a month on average then Verizon customers do. But Alltel has Mycircle and Verizon charges for GPS. My guess is you will be able to continue with your current contract. Once you come to the end of the contract, if you decide to upgrade your phone or change your plan, Verizon will make you sign a contract with them. Otherwise you should be able to continue using your Alltel plan. Just a guess.

I've had no real problems with Verizon support. I've been with them since I went cellular in 2000. Their network has proved widespread, even in some remote areas where other folks could not get a connection. They do seem to charge or everything when I hear other carriers may have better rates or inclusions.
Good luck

I've had Verizon for close to ten years, and besides two billing errors that were cleared up with a quick phone call I've never had a problem. Any time I've called I've always found them to be very helpful. I had both VZW and TMO for a while and can say they easily compare CS wise. My main reason for staying with VZ is that I have NEVER had a problem with service, even in remote areas where people with other carriers had nothing. To me, that's worth paying a little extra for.

Prior to AT&T, I had VZW for my work account, and my overall experience with CS was as good as any of the other carriers I have been with.
My personal reasons for moving to AT&T were to get a GPS enabled device, and I had periodic signal issues near my home.

Based on my own experiences, and those I know from others: Great coverage, a little on the spendy side compared to other carriers, customer service is hit or miss-some really great experiences, some that were pretty awful-but then you could say that about most carriers.

Those TV commercials are correct. In my experience, they do have the best network coverage, especially in rural areas. I have used T-Mo, ATT, and Verizon, and Verizon had the best coverage of those 3.

In my 14 years or so experience with cellphones I have used all of the carriers. With Verizon I have had bad service maybe twice and after being transfered to a supervisor it was resolved right then and there. I get great signal in 99% of the time every where I go. I could care less about cellphone GPS so the only drawback for me is hmm I cant think of any. I find them reliable in every catagory

...personally, vzw is the best network coverage out there. you cant beat it. fastest data transfer speed, too, this side of 3g.
and with the change over to a gsm-based platform with their next-gen technology, you wont have the delays in phone rollouts that you have now.
as for customer service, its no better or worse than any other carrier out there.
