Default Playbook Internet browsing---Yes or No?

Please Login to Remove!

I have been searching the forums and still do not have a definitive answer to this question (though my guess is a disappointing no).

Without WiFi access and tethered to my BB 9780, can I get internet access with my browser? Surf the web?

Or can I only access things like BB Email, calendar, address book, task list and BBM?

Thanks for your input, speculative though it may be.

Anything you get will be pure speculation at this point.

This is the response I got from BlackBerryHelp on Twitter...

@BlackBerryHelp: The BlackBerry Playbook will require Wi-Fi to connect to the internet. ^MD

I responded by asking...

@domenic1972: So what do they mean in the official specs when they state "3G network access using your BlackBerry® smartphone as a modem"?

Waiting for an answer!

This is just speculation, but I would think that the BlackBerry bridge would work like other third party applications and route through the BB network stack directly. This would also allow the PlayBook hooked to a BB to access corporate resources. If they just use the standard bluetooth networking profile, they will only have access to the carrier supplied internet. That is assuming that carrier pressure doesn't weigh on them too heavily. I would really hate to see a "tethering tax" put in place on this one.

It means what it says, only through 3G smartphone.

I know what it means lol

That was the question I asked BlackBerryHelp when they responded to my question about "If I don't have Wifi, can I access the internet on the PlayBook though my BB 3G connection?" Their response was Wifi only to access the internet! ...I'm assuming this person that responded didn't really read my question

but this is their last response...

@BlackBerryHelp: You can connect your BlackBerry to a computer and use it as a modem to access the internet on the computer. Thank you. ^PM

Just wanted to confirm this as this would've been a showstopper for me if I couldn't access internet through my BB..

I was trying to find the video, but Ryan Biden mentions that accessing the internet over your BB connection may be restricted by your carriers. That was why he was so hesitant to be specific about it.

Looks like we'll see soon though.
