8700g Slow Operating System
Please Login to Remove!
Hi everyone, this is my first post here, but I've been reading here for a while. I was having issues with my 8700g randomly rebooting quite often, so I upgraded the software to 4.5.0.110. The rebooting problem seems to have mostly disappeared. Now the phone gets very slow. If I pull the battery, the phone works great at first but after sending a few messages it gets incredibly slow, to the point that it's unusable until a reboot is performed. I do not have a data plan and only use the phone for calls, SMS, and calendar. It even does this when the message folder is empty. I do not have any extra applications on the phone, and only one extra ring tone. Can someone please help me out?

Hi - please look in Options / Status and see how much free space you have. It sounds like your BB is running VERY low on free memory.

Welcome to the forums.
What is your file free (Options > status)?
What programs do you have running in the background (Alt + Escape [back key])?

The Alt+escape isn't working for me. It just brings up a few icons that I can choose between. I will wait till the phone slows down to post the file free status.

Then alt+escape is working. It shows you the applications that are open.
Post free file space now - not when it slows down. It is low already.

File Free space is 36532032 bytes.
Phone, browser, home screen, blackberry messenger, and messages are running. I don't even need browser and messenger at all

Unfortunately those are always active and can't be shut down.
Well, 36mb free is fine. Unless there is an application with a massive memory leak, it has to be something else.

It is going really slow right now as we speak. Any action I make takes about 4 seconds for the b-berry to respond.

36mb is more than enough.

Would a wipe possibly help? I kinda wonder if this is still related to the initial re-booting issue I had.

Sure - back it up first, then follow the steps to use JL_CMDER to wipe it out and then install the latest handheld OS for the 8700.

After doing the wipe, everything seems to be working good for now. It's been about an hr since I loaded the OS.

The issue has re-appeared over the weekend. 4.5 doesn't add any benefits for what I do, what is the fastest most stable OS for phone, SMS, and calendar?
