Default Cascading Problems

Please Login to Remove!

I bought a new Torch last week and had it unlocked.

First it repeadedly gave message when I tried to use the phone - Call Failed. I turned off WIFI and went to 2G and finally I tried to updated it.

Next it hung up for ever while updating (I mean 2 hours) so I unplugged it. The screen went blank (Error 507), then my PC (Windows 2007 Pro) stopped.

I rebooted the PC 3 times and finally got explorer to work, then I updated the BB desktop soft ware, and with that got the phone working.

Now MS office is screwed - won't save a 2003 document (excell or word) and Outlook wont save any new contacts or new appointments. I reloaded office but no difference. Right now Im scanning for a virus.

WHAT IS GOING ON!!?!

Wow. I think you should have gotten your sea legs before venturing out of the harbor.

First problem could have been carrier issue, signal problems, who knows.

Next, the failed upgrade... Were you using a hub, keyboard USB port, or something like that, or a USB port on the box. Hub's a typically a no no, and it's best to plug into a port on the box. You also need to make sure your computer doesn't do some power saving and shut down your port during the operation.

The 507 error.... Your install crapped out or was interrupted or something. No software installed. Re-install the operating system. See blackberryfaq.com, but sort out your computer issues before starting.

Your other computer problems.... Good luck. Hope it's not malware.

Sounds like malware.

Your computer sounds like the biggest issue right now.

You should also run a chkdsk after you do your malware scan. I'd start with an on-line scan from eset.com.

For chkdsk -> open a command prompt, "chkdsk /r" yes at unlock. It won't be able to. Asks if you want to do on reboot. Hit "y". Then reboot.

Will take a while to run through all 5 stages.

There is of course a difference between an 'unlocked' phone and 'sim free' phone and in my experience the former is and has always been problematic.

Make sure your Pc is not going in to sleep or hibernate mode. Did it take a bit to redisplay? It might be and if the load was in progress it would be corrupted.
