Default Buy mature storm1 or wait for storm2

Please Login to Remove!

I'm thinking of upgrading my 2 year contract and I can get the storm1 for free. It sounds like the storm1 is getting fairly stable.

So I read about the 6 reasons to get the storm2 but sometimes buying on the backend can save money.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Just went through that process myself and I opted for the Storm 1 on a one year agreement. My reasons were the cost of the Storm 2 on a one year contract would be more than I'd be willing to pay and my other reason is because my Pearl was limping along and would not last much longer. In 10 months I'll upgrade to the Storm 2...

Couldn't agree more, petej88! I opted to buy the storm 1 immediately after release and now I realize I should have waited and saved money. texasPI, I would take petej88's advice. I know you will do the right thing ;)

If you can afford the extra money, I would get the Storm2. The Storm does seem pretty stable from what I have read, but the Storm2 seems to have fix many of the Storm's problems with improvements to the screen, no loose buttons, tighter screen fit, more memory, etc. I could just never buy "last year's model" although I understand it is tempting. My NE2 was up in July and I have been impatiently waiting for the S2 to arrive; I almost picked up the Storm for nothing, but I held off. Yesterday, with Verizon finally acknowledging the S2 in the corporate ad for BES 5.0, the release cannot be far off.

I pretty much went throught the same thing. I decided to go with S1 just because I feel it's stable and although S2 will fix some of the issues with S1, I didn't feel like paying the extra money. I am still a little tenative about the S1 because it seems like the user reviews are hit or miss, but so far so good with mine. I only got it yesterday, but I really like it so far.

I was in VZW yesterday because I am getting ready to jump from AT&T and wanted the Storm 2.. The sales guy tried SOOO hard to get me to get the matured 1.. but no way on the planet if you compare the specs and hardware fixes do I feel anyone should get 1. Unless your just a broke person. To me the extra money is definitely worth it.

There is no comparison. Unless money is a major factor, get the Storm 2.

If you think the S1 is stable, I suggest you go to http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/p...tem=phoneFirst

The latest reviews come first and people are overwhelming complaining about the OS being unstable (version .148). I spent a lot of time last night reading through a couple of hundred reviews to see if there's anyone who actually likes the phone. The number of users that liked it/reviewed it are far outnumbered by those who returned it or simply hate it for: dropped calls, missed calls, battery pulls, freezes.

The one I bought 1 1/2 - 2 weeks ago was/is stable. No issues at all. I read those reviews too prior to buying it and in all fairness quite a few disliked it for reasons other than the actual phone. Alot were new to smartphones/blackberry etc and some reported issues that I would classify as user error. Can't recall them off the top of my head and I don't feel like wading through those reviews again but just keep that in mind when reading those reviews.

Forgot to add that the .151 OS made a noticeable improvement in overall performance. Battery life is noticeable improved as well. Mine shipped with .148 and I upgrade it the day after I received it.

I know you're just joking but I'm not a broke person and opted for the storm 1 and am quite happy with it. Would I have preferred the the second gen? Sure but I'm not willing to pay the price of admission, at least initally. Reminds me of the Tour release. Everyone, including my self, were hyped about it but as we all know it had various issues like any device. I prefer doing one year contracts and you can bet the storm 2 price for 1yr will be over $250 when launched. I just don't like to get a two year contract for a phone with a 1 year warranty. Insurance is not an option as I don't want to pay for it and it runs concurrently with manufacturers warranty etc.

I'll get the storm 2 in 10 months (when I can upgrade again) at a discount like I just got the storm 1.

I have been using the original Storm for 9 months now and I am very happy with it.
I am running the latest OS (.151) and it is really stable. Re-boots are few and far between, and it is quicker than ever.
I have read through the reviews that are on Verizon's web page, and a lot of them are plain impatience on the part of the reviewers. The majority of them didnt even give the phone a week or two of use before flaming it online (if they even owned one-who knows how many Apple Fan-Boys left reviews!).
I am going to hang on to my original Storm. I still like it. When the prices come down on the Storm 2 I will probably buy one.

I would also advise waiting for the S2...the tech on it will be improved, the OS is 5.0, and while the S1 IS now stable with the .151 release....why not have the latest and greatest? I'm looking forward to getting the S2 when it comes out and I've been very happy with my Storm 1.

I have been a loyal Storm 1 user since OS .65. I am currently running .148 and have suffered along the long road to 1st Gen stability. I love my Storm 1 but it there is no valid line of reasoning to purchase a Gen 1 when the Gen 2 is available. If you lack the funds, wait and save up.

The Gen 2 will be better designed, have more memory, and will ultimately be supported more. That the Gen 1 is friggen "mature" attributes human qualities to an electronic device. NOT!!! It electronic therefore when the newer model comes out, its officially antiquated. That's just the reality of it. If you have grown attached to the familiarity of an outdated model, then so be it. You will be eventually dragged, kicking an screaming, into a newer generation model. But, don't give bad advice. From what I have seen of the Storm 2 on Youtube, the Storm 2 is a HUGE improvement from the first Gen model. I see myself ultimately buying one for the cash price being that I am still under contract.

Surely Ill wait a bit to see how the Gen 2 model performs. I am in no rush. But if you aren't already driving a Gen 1, get a Storm 2. Any argument to the contrary is at best, specious.
