There are old threads about upgrading BBM and the app icon not showing on the device, I don't remember.
First, as asked in the other thread, do you have a BlackBerry data plan?
When you have a BlackBerry data plan, here is what I would do if I were in your shoes.
Do a full backup.
Do a security wipe.
See if BBM shows as installed in device settings. If so, delete it.
Use the desktop software to install BBM. While you are there, install docs to go. Remove any apps or install others as desired.
Restore just your data. Do not restore settings.
Connect to BlackBerry World and install updates.
