A few of the files in my BES Logs folder have grown to a huge size and I want to trim them down or delete them. The main offender is

SERVERNAME_MAGT_01_0001.txt

It's 4.26 GB in size and has a date of 02/04/2007 (UK Format)

It's too large for any text editor to open and I just want to delete it but it appears to be locked, I get an error that the file is in use when I try and do this. Is it safe for me to stop the BES services and remove or rename this file or is this needed for something? I'm presuming that this is just a log file and not needed for the BES to operate properly but am a bit too scared to mess around with it without checking first.

It's just a log file. You can stop all services and delete the file.

You should use the option to create daily log files. This will make you like easier if (a) you have to submit logs to RIM Tech Support and (b) delete old log files.
