Question Treo 700W or Motorola Q

Please Login to Remove!

Does anyone know why there is no unlocked versions of these phones available for GSM networks. I am with T-Mobile and dont want to leave, but it always seem that T-Mobile is never the 1st to come out with these new phones. Does anyone know when these phones might be available with T-Mobile or just unlocked?

Because neither phone is available in GSM yet.

They are both CDMA phones.

Verizon has the exclusive on both.

When I get my "Q" tomorrow can you help me unlock it to use it on T-Mobile?

Ooh ooh! After that, can you come to a Blackberry forum and discuss whether or not I should get a Treo or a Q?

Errrrr...

I agree, I don't think taping your SIM card to the back of it will work.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102 UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0)

Interesting...I didn't realize your question had anything to do with Blackberry products. Even re-reading it yielded no mention of BB.

PIZZ- he said he has a blackberry but i do agree this is no place to shop for palm and motorola's. I think it's advice he's looking for and mine would be stick to an 8700, does everything both of those device do but far better, except for the multi media stuff of coarse...

Of course, the possibility exists that the OP is aware of the fanboy-run forums for Treos and MS-based smartphones. With all the clutter, it can be more than just challenging to extract objective info from that which may be economic-driven b/s.

This forum is a bit of an exception to the rule, possibly because the majority of those using BB's for any length of time are using them as a professional resource and not a toy/gizmo that does everything under the sun, but does none consistantly well. Give the guy a break and maybe move the thread to the most appropriate area? Just a thought.

Wayne, I have a Q and a Blackberry.

The only reason that I am keeping the Q instead of the Blackberry is because (as junior stated earlier) of the multi-media capabilities. I have a new son and it is VERY convenient to end quick pics, videos, etc. with the Q.

If you want to shop around and look at the Q I would HIGHLY suggest going to qusers.com and check out the forums, especially the 'rants and raves'. That site is filled with real users of the Q.

The Q came out and has underwhelmed many users who expected more. The general consensus is that it is an extremely well designed package with extremely poor software. It is also a smartphone, and not a pocket pc...sort of a PDA-lite. This is an point that many of it's supporters keep bringing up. It seems to me that in order to be a happy Q user, you must have a realistic idea about what you are buying, and accept the sacrifices that Motorola/Microsoft/Verizon made in order to deliver a device to market that is 0.45 inches thin.

I am a Q user, coming from Blackberry, but I come back here to monitor for the day that Blackberry brings a multimedia device to market.

As far as the Treo goes, I know nothing about the 700w.

-Simpson

ps- if you have any specific questions on the Q, please feel free to send a pm or email me.

As a previous owner of both the 700w and the Q, I can say the BlackBerry is still my favorite. I can't deny the multimedia capabilities of the Windows-based smartphones and PDAs is not a huge draw but the operating system doesn't suit me at all. Overall, it's clunky and prone to odd behavior, same as the Windows desktop OS. I've decided I can live without the extras for the time being and trade them for a phone that always works, always gets me my email and is built intuitively.

This is certainly just my opinion and I'm quite sure there are loads of people who would disagree but the 7130e is the best phone for me.

Actually, I completely agree with you. I love my 8700g. I have had the MDA Vario and 8700g for quite some time now and Windows Mobile just makes me want to shoot myself sometimes. It lags 24/7 and has glitches left and right. The 8700g has never failed and never will. Fast and efficient is what I like (BlackBerry)...not a phone with a million features and not one of them works correctly (anything with Windows Mobile).
