Default blackberry messenger inaccurate contact count

Please Login to Remove!

So I have a curve 8310. On my BlackBerry Messenger contact list it constantly displays one more contact than I really have. With my contact list expanded or condensed it says, "Contacts (5/6)". If I add a contact it would display 6/7 and if I delete one, 4/5. No matter what I do I can't find the 6th contact. What is this fraction supposed to signify? In AIM it would indicate number online/total available. If someone is unavailable on BB it just displays them that way. I searched and checked the help section. How can I find this "ghost" contact and how can I get rid of it!? It is driving me up the wall.

Wirelessly posted (My blond BlackBerry)

Try a battery pull. Yesterday I had mine show as "Contacts 15/14". Wierd.

I did a battery pull and it cleared up.

Could it be that one of your contacts is changing his Blackberry, thus getting a new PIN and gumming up the works? I would think it would eventually straighten itself out if this is the case.

BBMessenger has so many little bugs like that. It's a nice app but a little buggy.

I don't think anyone has changed phones/pins. I don't see any pending contacts (would they be hidden somewhere?) and is the battery pull the same as a soft reset? I do those quite frequently with the reset program.

Thanks

A battery pull involves removing the battery while the device is on (for 20-30 seconds) and then putting the battery back in the device. It's also known as a 'hard reset'.

I knew what a battery pull was I just wasnt sure if it had the same effect as using the soft reset program. I did it and it didnt help the BB messenger issue. This is really driving me nuts. Any other ideas?

Well... according to RIM, it doesn't have the same effect.
How do I reset my BlackBerry? - BlackBerryFAQ

Some users will say that it does, and I can go both ways at times. When in doubt (and you are), pull the battery as Juwaack described.
