Default "Facebook Chat" Setting Found in Account Settings area?

Please Login to Remove!

I doubt I've come across anything new or exciting here, but I did do a quick search and couldn't seem to find any reference to it in the forums...

Anyway, I was just going through some of my Facebook settings from my PC and I came across a setting that I found curious (see attached screen shot). Under the Application Settings, I clicked on Edit Settings on the Facebook For BlackBerry Smartphones application and received a prompt for some permissions settings:

1. Access my data when I'm not using the application
2. Login to Facebook Chat

What's #2 all about? Facebook Chat...BlackBerry? I know there are some third party apps out there for Facebook Chat, but something within the Faceook app would be awesome. I'm curious to know if anyone has noticed this setting before, and what exactly it's for. The fact that both words are capitalized makes it look like an official title. I've racked my brain (and Google), and could not figure out what this setting could possibly be for. A preview of something to come? Probably not, but I thought I'd ask...anyone?

I assumed we'd eventually get the feature, but I still find it pretty odd that there is a setting floating around out there with no funcationality available on our devices yet (if this is truly what it's for). And the fact that it's hard to tell how long it has been out there makes me even more curious. Has anyone else noticed this before?

I agree with SteveO86, it sounds more like a Facebook v2.0 kind of feature.

All i can say is that 1.8 certainly doesn't have this functionality

Nor do the betazone members know when they will get a new version of FB.

That is all.

I really do wish they would get on the ball, and not spend 6 months rolling out a new feature.

Or maybe us as the community just pay too much attention lol

That option has been there for awhile. Nothing to see here, move along.

Do you think it will require OS 6.0?

I would hope not, for the sake of the many, many users out there that won't be able to update to 6.0 on their current devices. Seems like a pretty easy feature to implement. Of course, that's coming from someone that is completely clueless when it comes to writing software.

I really wish RIM would consolidate these IM Apps at this point. I would hate to start managing FB chat from separate app, to sign in/out of. Surely modules can be added to BBM??

(I've got an IM Account on every major IM client, been using Beejive for years but I just want something a bit more reliable..)

Just an after thought but why can't we register our IM accounts with BIS like we do with email, and then have the client/push data sent to the BB.. Would be more convenient (Of course how you sign off at that point.. Push is Push)
