Default Can't transfer files to/from Berry using USB

4GB micro SD present

Well, something happened to my desktop PC at work and when I connect the blackberry to my WinXPpro PC, it no longer shows under devices with removable media section. It does not show anywhere under MyComputer at all as a matter of fact. When I connect it to USB port with the given cable, I hear the bing's and bang's and I can see the external storage in my USB device connection icon in the tray though.

At home, my laptop, again work provided running winXPpro, sees it without any problems. They both get updated with the same Microsoft updates, so being at 2 different SP Levels is not the issue. They are at the same software levels as far as XP is concerned.

I am a UNIX guy and windows stuff is not my forte. I asked around to the windoze admins and nobody can tell me anything. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Try and add new hardware. Sounds like you lost the driver for it. Also when it connects give it atleast 15 min to see if its just slow.

Are you plugging in via a hub at work? BB's don't like HUBs for some reason. Also, I wonder if the IT staff did something to the company PCs to prevent external connections?

My problem was, my cd burner was occupying derive letter D: which blackberry was expecting to map its drive letter. what fixed the problem was going into the disk management gui (from dos command line, type diskmgmt.msc) and remapping the drive letter for the cd burner to something else. Posting just in case others have the same problem.

Your company may have put NT/AD policies into place that block USB drives from being loaded in read/write mode. This is done to prevent people from downloading malware, or contraband software, or to copy sensitive corporate data from a user's machine. It is becoming more commonplace these days. Talk to your IT folks regarding group policy.

Default usb connection

same thing happens with my 8320. my desktop on XP does not recognize the devise, not on the tray nor in "my computer". i have already tried several approaches like re-loading DM 4.5, reformatting the media card, changing the usb cable, and everything i did with my 81 pearl. i tried using efile, just same the devise is not recognized and therefore cannot simply drag and drop the files. any suggestions? thanks

You can also just right-click your My Computer icon, select "Manage," and then access Disc Management from there.
