Default Cingular 8300 - NO GPS CHIP

Please Login to Remove!

Just had a meeting with my rep. Cingular 8300 is coming out later this month or beginning of May. However, it will not have the GPS chip.

They are not promoting the 8300 as much, just yet, because they want to push 8800's.

That's unfortunate. Seems odd that they would carry a GPS-equipped 8800 but not a GPS-equipped 8300. Oh well, guess it's time to purchase and unlock.

I for one hope this is not true for atleast one of the models. Is it too much to ask for GPS and a camera? I love the looks of the keyboard layout, but if there is no GPS then its the 8800 for me!

Default 8300 to cingular

After discussing this blackberry with my cingular data AE, he stated that it will not have GPS, and repeated the mid may launch date. He said he would have to research it further, but was fairly certain it would also be sans camera, though, he was not 100% on that.

I can definitely understand the no camera version. Many corporate and probably most government buyers do not want that option for security reasons.

But thats what the 8800 is for, if there is no camera and no GPS then what is this thing going to have that the 8800 doesnt? WiFi? If thats the case RIM dropped the ball big time!

I agree, whats the point? It's a slimmed down 8700. Especially if the 8300 does not have wi-fi as other reports have suggested.

But I would blame Cingular not RIM. Cingular decides which versions to sell.

Generally speaking, Cingular/AT&T has more corporate clients than T-Mobile. So it would make sense to have a full qwerty sans camera. Enter the 8800. Why would they release another full qwerty without camera AND without GPS?

Oh well. That's the fun of these forums and speculation. We get to guess and speculate for a little longer.

I guess that's why the 8300 is smaller than the 8800.

An 83XX without a camera isn't an 83XX. That's the feature that delineates the line from the 88XX. It's like saying "a Pearl without SureType"...

Was just sharing what was said to me. You are correct, it will have a camera and wifi, and no gps from what was said. I guess that means the model would be the 8320 (Camera, WiFi) according to BGR

Wirelessly posted (Ooga Booga 8700: BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100 UP.Browser/5.0.3.3)

Well then if it has a camera and wifi what does the 83xx contain. I am hoping that the 83xx has GPS, WiFi and a camera and is released by T-Mobile.

I also found out from a rep that sometime around May 23rd"ish" we should see something from the 8300 family out from T-Mo.

Egad. I don't care about wifi. I just want a BB with a GPS chip and a camera. Wifi is a battery pig.
