Just got the new 27" iMac with quad cores. I downloaded the Mac DM and when it is time to connect my Blackberry, I get an error on the blackberry saying the USB port can't charge my blackberry. Anyone else see this? Anyway around it? I am connecting it to the built-in port and have tried different ones. Anyone successfully connect to this model iMac?

Just a thought. Are you using a data cable or a regular USB cable? You should be using a data cable.

I didn't know there was a difference. I think I am using the cable it came with, but I have a few micro usb cables, so I might not be.

Nonsense. There's no such thing as a "data cable". It's just a standard USB cable. Nothing special about it.

While I am not entirely sure the cable is your problem here is some info that might be of help.

you should be using a data cable to connect your Blacberry to your Mac
There is a difference between a usb data cable and a regular usb cable.
The one that came with your Blackberry is a data cable

I have a 3 month old Mac 24 inch and have no problems connecting my Blackberry to it. There is an updated version of Blackberry Desktop Manager for Mac. Version 1.02. You candownload it from the Blackberry website.

So "splen this to me Lucy" How come when I tried to plug my Storm 2 into my computer using a regular USB cable I got an error message stating my "USB device was using too much power therefore it has been disconnected to prevent damage." If I use a data cable everything is fine and dandy. It charges and transfers files.

AFAIK there there may be differences in the cables, but there is no specific data cable vs. not...they are simple universal serial bus cables for connecting two devices...uh that would be universal...LOL

Are you starting your mac in 64 bit mode? That may be the issue.

Yes, it is 64 bit mode. Snow Leopard 10.6.2. I have a few cables and they work with Windows, just not on this particular Mac. I would like to be able to sync on either. I'll try a few cables and download the latest DM which just got updated.

The DM will NOT work if you boot in 64 bit mode...that was my point. You have to start your mac in 32 bit mode....LOL

It seems to be working now. I found my original USB cable and installed the latest DM. I think the cable might have fixed it though. Weird because I have used the same generic cables on my Windows laptop without a problem. I just did a sync and backup with no problem. I do like this Mac version of DM, much less confusing. BTW, I didn't change how I booted up. I am not even sure how to boot in 32 bit mode. I am a noob to Macs. Thanks for all the help. No one in a Mac forum offered much help, since I think they all use iPhones and not much Blackberrys.

Actually you have to force the mac into 64 bit mode, so just restarting the mac will start it in 32 bit mode. If you open Activity Monitor, you can see which apps are using 64 bit mode. If you click on the app itself (not double click) and "get info" you sometimes have the option of which mode to use (like 32 bit or rosetta). It is quite possible your cable is bad or a poor connection.
