I can't believe this...
Please Login to Remove!
I just started having the same exact problem; missed call indicator stuck on 2x missed. Can't clear. Tried changing the theme as well to no avail.
Funny thing is; this problem occurred in tandem with another problem. The 8830 device (my verizon BB) stopped showing the CALLER ID !!!!!!!
I'm getting incoming calls that register who the person is in my call log; however, when the call actually is coming in I don't see the callers name.
Stuck on 2x missed call indicator AND no caller id.
So, how do I delete it all, or clear the OS, and re-install????
Email-
Thanks for any help.

All fixed
You have to do as stated earlier; simply wipe everything and start over. Everything is now back to normal....
Ahhh...OS glitches are the best.
It's an electronic device; stuff happens.

Only partially related, but I had a call log entry that wouldn't go away. Someone called ONCE (a wrong number), and I would try to delete that entry but every few days it would come back. It'd be the same call (not a new one) based on the time and date. Finally it's gone now -- but I think [not sure though] logs scroll off by date after a while.
I did not however, have the missed call icon. Just a log entry that wouldn't go away.

Well I gave up :( I tried changing the theme, deleting all missed calls from the missed call log, battery pull, reset, and now am just installing the updated patch which should reload my device :(

FYI this did NOT work, now I don't have any call logs which is a real annoyance... I cleared them as listed above and even did a battery pull. Still one missed call with no freaking call logs.

This worked for me with a slight modification to retain my phone logs:
Desktop Manager - Backup/Restore - Advanced.
If you have Phone Call Logs under "Desktop File Databases", Delete it.
Select "Phone call logs" under "Device Databases" and copy it over to the Desktop side.
Click on "Phone call logs" under Device and Clear it.
Click on "Phone call logs under "Desktop" and copy it to "Device".
Refresh the device side to see the change.
This cleared the 4 missed calls notification icon at the top of my theme without having to remove the battery or reinstall the OS.
It is very sad that I will have to repeat this same procedure after my next few missed calls.

I still have three missed calls on mine, it's not worth this pain to do all of that to remove them.... wish they would fix this crap.

I've called several new calls into the 8800, let 'em be missed, count goes up, clear those calls, count goes down, but won't go below 1.
Did off/on, pulled battery, still comes back up with missed call = 1.
Went through Messages / View Folders and cleared all calls with an "active" missed call icon, still stuck on 1.
Any ideas ??

I wonder if everyone having this difficulty has the latest OS installed? Clearly, reinstalling the OS clears the missed call indicator, but the latest OS may solve the difficulty entirely.
Installing the latest OS is simple enough. I did it in no time and the process backs up your handheld automatically (Answer 'Yes' to the prompt). I backed up the handheld first, thinking that I would have to, then upgraded the OS only to realize that step was unnecessary. The process restored everything, including my theme, icon locations, call logs etc.
It is absolutely worth upgrading your OS, especially if you are experiencing difficulty of any kind. Rim adds patches this way, some publicized, some not.

It's quicker than pulling the battery. I wish they would fix it too.

Pretty sure I have the latest OS also. Pulling the battery does not fix it for mine... I don't want to do all of the above steps just to have it come back up when I get another missed call.
It's random too, some missed calls go away when I check them .. some stay there for some reason. It seems to be the missed calls that if they call, I miss it, then they call again and I answer it.. the missed call never goes away.

For some strange reason my phone is no longer hanging on to my missed calls. I did the backup/delete/restore for my phone call logs twice and now the phone seems to be working as expected. I don't know if that had anything to do with it, but I'm happy....for now at least.
I did try downloading new service books before I had to do the backup/restore thing, so maybe that helped.

Didn't work
Frustrating, this phone log clear (both methods) didn't work for me. Interestingly, when I had cleared out the log on the device I looked at the call indicator before restoring from the desktop. It remained solid the entire time. So this leads me to believe that it is some logic other than phone log related that is staying triggered. On my old WM5 device, the registry was at fault. Does BB8830 have anything registry-like?

I don't. I am running the latest verizon OS and a few third party apps, but nothing to exciting (from a stability standpoint). Overall this BB is rock solid and I have never had any other weird behavior.

OK, pardon me because I'm not going to waste my time reading the entire thread, but my 8830 was ticking me off when I got it as well. Seems with call logging set to log calls as message causes both phone log and messages to list. So, set your logging to none so it doesn't give you a message as well as a missed call alert. I got tired of clearning the missed call and also the missed call message. Look into that... what else do you have to loose.

I had this issue last week too. Tried the suggestions in the thread, no luck. I wiped the handheld of user data, that did the trick. Seems like using a hand granade to hunt bunny rabbits, but I couldn't find a more graceful solution.
