Default 4.7.0.83

Has anyone tried the .83
see the Rimarkable review (the forum won't let me post the link)

Now I can post the link...: BlackBerry Storm OS 4.7.0.83 Found Online | RIMarkable

Thoughts on installing this on a verizon phone?

I know talk of the beta software is not really for this thread... but the .83 is a lot better... camera works quicker (not "perfect", but quicker). I was also able to get an 11 minute video recorded this AM, where it locked up on me last night when trying... (Kid's concerts... not really high quality, but the sound is decent and that's as important as anything else).

My gut tells me the .83 version will be what's released in January... Wasn't the original launch supposed to be .82 except it had problems which was why they rolled back to .65? .83 is probably the patched .82 version... It is an official RIM release anyways...

Testing new updates if part of the fun!! If you don't like the new update, you can reinstall the old one.

That is incorrect. It was announced a while ago that the boxes with the .82 on the label were just misprints, so they just slapped the correct (.65) sticker over them.

Also, I upgraded to .76 (from .75), and the one thing I'm noticing is that the battery SEEMS to last longer and the memory leak doesn't SEEM to be as bad. These are probably related, but I can't confirm whether this is actual or just perceived.

Current memory just over 35MB, uptime is 112800 seconds, and battery is at 60%.

I got the .exe file, ran the file, deleted the vendor file, double click on loader, it'll go to the "Application Loader Wizard," then confirms three programs, then it says it's done....with no OS update (I'm on .75 right now).

What am I doing wrong?

I installed it last night. I'm liking it so far. One of my peeves before the update was the slowness when switching from portrait to landscape. It seems much better now. However, if I am in Phone mode and the device locks (I have a password set), when I unlock it i can't do anything for a few seconds. After that, is a little sluggish for a few more seconds. About 6-7 seconds total. Its annoying when I am in a hurry.

Something I just noticed is that when I go to phone it's not bringing up my initial view as contacts. I double checked settings, battery pull, and still the same. Not a big deal but weird.
Also noticed the little lightning bolt is finally disappearing when fully charged!

yes it is acceptable to update your bb with the latest os from any provider. Just make sure the os is suitable for your device and delete the vendor file before upgrading!

Default lost browser with upgrade

Just did the upgrade to 109 and lost my browser icon. It keeps saying that there is no browser configured. It also is telling me that i need to set up BIS or BES, but when I try I get the no browser message. Already did a battery pull...no luck. Any help?

Try turning your wireless connection off then back on, sometimes that will help.

The guy at the Verizon store told me that if you do not get the OS from Verizon (which is currently .75) it will void the warranty. Is that baloney?

Hey guys/gals, real quick how come this update doesn't come thru my updates as the latest? Is it beta or unofficial? I currently have v4.7.0.75 plat 4.0.0.94.

Noisemaker, I was pretty much called a liar by one of the forum members for relaying the same information. I've been told directly by a reputable Verizon tech and a customer service representative that loading a bootleg "beta" OS into the phone will void the warranty. Being that Verizon is the middle man through which one would make a warranty claim, you will be accountable to their policies and not the opinions of disgruntled ex-employees in this forum.. If you choose to load a bootleg beta and the phone goes belly up, its on you to "cover your tracks".

Now the same person who called me a liar cleverly avoided conceding he was wrong by tactically inferring that it "may not" void your warranty if you reload the officially released OS before walking into a VZW store to make your claim. So essentially he agrees otherwise he would tell you to take the phone as is and defiantly make your claim.

If a representative of a phone carrier is telling you something you feel is questionable, you would be wise to go above his head to double check. I'll save you the time though. I did and got the same information. Loading an unauthorized OS into your phone WILL void your warranty if a tech discovers such. So I would recommend that you don't unless you possess the technical expertise to cover your tracks.

And that's the conundrum facing anyone wanting to play with a beta: If you have to ask, it's too expensive.
