Default How much abuse can the pearl on a Blackberry Pearl withstand?

Please Login to Remove!

I got my Blackberry Pearl last week and love this device.

My question is this ... how much abuse can the pearl on a Blackberry Pearl withstand?

Specifically, I am concerned about playing games that require a lot of aggressive use of the pearl to navigate.

For example, two of the games I downloaded are Sudoku and Ka-Glom. I have absolutely no concerns playing Sudoku, because navigation is slow and controlled, just like reading e-mail or anything else. However, Ka-Glom requires a lot of aggressive use of the pearl to navigate (rapid back and forth, clicking to rotate, etc). I fear that playing games like Ka-Glom is going to shorten the lifespan of my BB.

So, to all you seasoned BB Pearl users, how much abuse can this thing withstand?

Thanks in advance.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 8700g: BlackBerry8320/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

The one I had had been dropped and beaten up. (I bought it used.) It worked perfectly.

The trackball is very durable but does get dirt and debris in it. I don't think anything you can do with your thumb will break it. Trackball assemblies can now be purchased for under $10.00 and are easily replaceable....

I wouldn't sweat it! Enjoy!

I had one from Dec 06 to July 07 and i had problems going in either the up/down or right/left movements, it changed all the time. I am one of those guys who checks it constantly and plays games on 45 min commutes though, so I am scrolling with it all teh time and probably abused it more than a regular user did.

I tried to clean the trackball and screwed it up and am on a new Pearl since July. We will see how long this one holds up.

They were free. I just went to the Blackberry Home page and they were under "free games." A couple other cool games were under "classic games" and those were also free.

I have a couple guys that work for me in my kitchen that both have pearls, they are very beaten up and work great for them. I have seen the phones hit the tile floor on several occasions. I think the pearls may be a little tougher than my 8830.

Ya the pearl is one durable son of a ***** in my opinion. If you search my threads you'll see abuse stories that I had. And a bunch of others that added to it. To make a long story short it once took a 16 ft fall off the machine I run hit the job whille spinning flew 50ft slide bout 20 more and stopped in a pool of oil bout half way submerged. Cleaned it up put back to gether and it worked without a hitch. and just recently got a new trackball assembly but it took about 50 to a hundred cleanings before I lost the crome ring and finaly couldn't get it to work right no more.
So the answer to the question about how many times can you take the crome ring out befor it breaks is about 75 lmao. Give Er take a few. Lol.
