Keep looking (just kidding; there is no pinhole on the 8700)

Either pop the battery out or hit ALT / CAP / DEL twice

Wink Hard Reset

The type of hard reset you are looking for can be found under Options>Security Options>General Settings and click the thumb-wheel and select Wipe Handheld. That will reset everything back to the way you got it from the manufacturer...

NO NO NO!!!!

The original poster specifically asked where the pinhole was; older BlackBerrys had a very small hole next to the battery where you could poke in a paper clip and reset the BlackBerry - the same as popping the battery. Those of use with 5810s walked around with paper clips in our pockets.

I taped small paper clips to the inside of the battery cover before I deployed 250 devices a couple years back!

According to my kids it's somewhere above my neck. Stop by and I'll show you. I wouldn't call NJ "old school." I think he's got a bit of Rebel Yell to him.

I guess it means that all sowftwares will be removed as well with my data. does it also mean that the OS upgrade will be removed?

what about the T-Mobile and Pin info?
Will I be able to phone again with it or do I need to contact T-Mobile?
thanks

Wipe Handheld removes all customer data. It does not touch applications or the handheld OS itself. PIN data is hard coded onto the BB and can not be changed EVER.

I've done this thinking that it will comletely reset my handheld, however i still have the policy from my company loaded. Is it possible to reset to how i got it. I dont care about the apps being erased or going back on the OS, but i want to reset and erase all the policies that were pushed by the BES.

The only way is to have a new policy pushed. Before one leaves a company they can push a neutral one. In my tips doc there is a link, on how to get a new blank policy and were threads on it here.

Unfortunately, i am not using this 8700 anymore as i replaced it with a pearl, but now it means that i cannot reset and clean it up. What is mainly bothering me is that this unit will require a password where since this is not anymore linked with a BES i'd like to remove this policy.

Default Reset 8700g

As Flash24 said earlier- You take the battery out whilst the BB is running. When you reconnect the battery and startup it goes through the initial setup again. You can then wipe the config by going into OPTIONS, then SECURITY OPTIONS, then GENERAL SETTINGS. Click the wheel on Password and choose wipe handheld.

Welcome to the forums....

First, this is not a "hard reset". This is a "wipe handheld". As was already posted in this thread already it only erases user data. It leaves the OS and programs alone, just takes your data out of them.

Second, you cannot "wipe" the BES policy set on the BB if there is one. There is another procedure for that which is a little more difficult if you don't have a neutral one pushed from your company.

OK - what do you do if the Black Berry crashed - then won't get past the spinning timer. You cannot connect from a laptop, and the ALT - CAP - DELETE turns it off, but it comes back to the spinning timer...? How do you reset then?

You are going to have to try and wipe out the BB and reload it. Here's what I would do.

- Locate "JL_CMDER" on this board and use it to wipe out the BB - the BB will show an error "507" (No OS Found) after the wipe
- Download and install the latest version of the 8700 Handheld OS onto your PC
- Locate and delete VENDOR.XML from your PC C: drive
- Start Desktop Manager and it should reload.

Good luck.
