Hi i have a new blackberry 8700 its new and wanted to know how to do a hard reset

Take out the battery for 30 seconds and replace.

What do you want to achieve by the hard reset? If you want to delete all data on the BB, than removing the battery will not help. You will need to go to Options->Security Options->General Settings and select from the menu "Wipe handheld".

ALT + CAP + DEL will do a soft reset on the BB 8700
it'll fix most errors

Will this erase all data AND settings? like email settings?

I only like to erase the address book, to sync later with my MS Outlook. Because I cant record the MS data ONLY, its store MS+BB data.-

Pressing ALT + CAP + DEL a second time after the inital screen will come back on is equivalent to a hard reset as well.

What about using BlackBerry Desktop to overwrite your old addressbook instead? A one-way sync? I think it supports this feature. (Make sure you have this correctly configured, and you have a backup of your Outlook database first, AND a backup of your BlackBerry first, before you sync!)

It only adds the Outlook data that is missing on BB, but do not replace all BB address book with Outlook address book.-

There is a way via desktop manager to delete your address book.

I forget HOW but I think it was via the intellisync option.

I loaded my sim before and then synced it to my outlook, reconfigured everything. Deleted my address book on the bb and then uploaded my outlook thing to my bb. Worked fine.

I think it was through Backup/Restore and then go to Advanced.

The easiest way to erase the device is to to to "Security", click the wheel, and "Wipe Handheld". Back to nothing.

even after a "hard reset" and "wipe" all installed programs are still installed there... is there a way to a factory restore, so it retuns to the default as it was delivered?

I have a blackberry 8700C. I removed the sim card and replaced it with a card that was not activated. Now I get a app error 205 (rest) message. However, when I conduct the reset by pressing alt-caps-del the screen goes through it's reboot and the error returns! Can anyone assist? Thank you

After attempting the reboot using alt-caps-del, the BB8700 reboots and gives me the same error message "app error 205 reset" has anyone had this issue and how can I reset my phone?

-The error 205 is a sim card error, change the sim card back to the old one.

- If you wipe a blackberry it takes it back to factory defaults.

- If you want to clear your address book, load Desktop Manager (DTM) up, plug BB in, go to Backup/Restore, Go to Advanced, click on Address Book on the RIGHT HAND SIDE screen, under that screen will be a "Clear" button, click it, hit OK. BAM! Clearing it.

would it have anything to do with having a blackberry that wuz unlocked, and then upgrading system software, so that the blackberry somehow got locked again?!

ALL BB's lock when rebooted if a password is active.

Desktop manager will replace the address book on the BB with any addresses not found on the BB . IT's simple to do as stated by Mark Rejhon, a wipe will let you replace the data including the address book
