The screen brightness, I think, is vital to getting the most out your battery. I have rye VZNav and I just close the program after each use. I close the majority of programs. I have 50% brightness and I surf the web a lot. What drains my battery the most at time is BB alerts. I do not close the program but at night it I do not charge it, it drains big time.

I don't know if people do not do the initial charge before use. Also car charges rapidly deteriorates your battery. You have to use the wall charger to maintain your battery life. Good luck.

Default Battery Life

-Sounds like a phone software issue, I would return it for a new Storm.

As for battery life;
I have VZ Navigator installed and it only drains the battery while in use (updating gps signal). My battery usually lasts a day and a half (if I only talk on it 2 hours or less per day). I don't think you need to uninstall the application completely, just disbale the GPS until you need it.

Yes I have backlight at 10% and timeout at 10 seconds and my charge only lasted about 6 hours with minimal use(no browser, 2 emails, 15-20 SMS, BT off, GPS off, VZNav uninstalled) I called Verizon technical support and they are telling me that the phone shouldn't last more than the 6 hours. Do I have to try calling back and getting another technician?

I got a Storm for Christmas and the battery worked fine at first... but it really had problems the past week.

I could use the phone for about 20 minutes of talk time and maybe check a few emails, with no web surfing, or no bluetooth and the phone would be dead late in the afternoon.

I never use my VZ Navigator.... just got it to try it. does it really kill the battery life if you aren't using it?

BTW... Verizon replaced my battery yesterday and the new one is working great so far.

As for VZ Navigator, is it really GPS or just cell tower tri-angulation?

does it wear down the battery if you're not using it?

thanks everyone.

After a couple days where a full charge was lasting about 6 hours my battery life is now lasting. I have not changed any settings, have about the same usage, and it has now been 24 hours since a charge and I still have half a charge left. Should I not worry about it anymore?

That sounds about right. Li-Ion batteries need to go through a few cycles before you start to see maximum battery life, and it looks like that just happened for you.

Do you mean constant using of VZ Nav kills the battery or just having it on kills the battery? I haven't used my nav much, mostly for local search, but it has not had any effect on my battery. I have squeezed three days of battery life out but I usually get two solid days of emailing, texting and web browsing. Playing Word Mole or Brick Breaker will use more.

I use my Storm constantly for both business and personal. I have two email accounts that update all day and I use VZNav. I am somewhat disappointed with the battery life but I charge each night, the phone is set to turn off at 1am and back on at 5am. Additionally when I use VZNav i'm in the car so I use the car charger while dealing with Los Angeles traffic. I will certainly be getting the extended battery but by charging each night and if I'm in the office most of the day battery last me almost all day. I do plug the wall charger in at work most days if I'm going to be the for a few hours.

Hi, got my Storm 2 weeks ago. I use it for calling only. no inet. some music only once though. still, the battery is like 100% discharged after 2 -> maximum 3 days of ZERO use. It´s basicly only turned on an being used as an alarm clock. Is this normal or should I contact vodafone...? or did I do something wrong with the battery? If so - is there a way "back"?
After reading this thread it seems that this is normal...I´ll sell it then.

2-3 days! wow... that'd be great if the battery lasted that long.

Mine lasts about 2 days with minimal calling usage, lots of texts, few email and some browsing. My curve would last about 3 days... but i think its about normal for the Storm.

Wirelessly posted

I get about a day from a charge unless I make a lot of calls. I think that any device with such a large screen will eat battery life. Going to see if disabling gps makes any diff'. Pain tho as I use gmaps daily. Seems to me that the led uses min power but maybe its worth turning that off too?

i second this post, Li-Ion batteries love the juice, but after the first couple of cycles they do last longer

I just got my storm on friday and it appears to be working well. Went from .75 to .90 and now to .99. I haven't needed to charge the phone since i got it on friday. I am at about 30% right now.

I have two bes accounts on my storm... i have placed about 30 calls, read about 200 emails, played with internet and loaded 6 apps. Rebooted about 6 times so far. I can't believe this blackberry goes longer then a day. My curve or pearl could never do that.
