Hi All,

I have a blackberry 9700. The battery indicator is slightly pink but I never got it wet at all and have only had it two weeks. I want to exchange it for a new blackberry. Do you think they will say no because of this? the one on the battery is almost completely white but the one inside is a very light pink. I feel it is very unfair because I never got it wet or took it in the shower or anything. I have ATT.

Humidity could be a factor in the hot summer. What is the problem with the one? I ask because maybe your issue relates to moisture.

You wonxxx8217;t convince anyone it did not get wet with a pink indicator. The question asked is whatxxx8217;s wrong with it. If nothing then you donxxx8217;t have to worry. If it did get wet then you may have future issues. If you think it might still be wet, put it in a bag of rice for a few days ( battery out ) and it should dry any residual moisture.

there are no problems with it at all. i just want the newest blackberry. It's just slightly pink even. I was wondering if there are false positives, because i've never even spilled anything *near* it. i would say if i spilled something but since i didn't, i'm really annoyed.

my battery did the same but no water damage as well..I got a new blackberry cuz my old one started disconnecting from the network..when I got my new blackberry I put the 'water damaged' battery in and it works perfectly so now I have a back up battery..ps don't pay $70 or whatever for a new battery..I found one online for under $10

They will look at the indicator on the phone that is the true moisture indicator for the device! I wouldn't worry about the indicator on the battery! I don't think the indicator on the battery is a true moisture indicator. I may be wrong ill have to search and double check

And just a note, many people insist that their BlackBerry has NEVER been near water, but when probed, it is determined that the device has been.

Wet hands, wet hair, sweaty pocket, steamy bathroom, heavy dew, high humidity environment. All of those contain moisture.

You don't have to have "spilled anything *near* it" in order to have moisture.

Well thanks guys. Just sucks. I'm really careful with all my bb's but if a sweaty pocket or high humidity can make water damage, what can you do :( Maybe they will just be nice at the store? Probably not though :(

So there's nothing wrong with your device, but you want to cheat your carrier because you just want a shinnier toy?

Attitudes like that is why carriers are making more and more difficult to do real exchanges.

Actually it sounds like the OP is still within the 30 day exchange period (she said she only had it two weeks) and is hoping to exchange it for the new Torch (since she said she wants the newest one). This is allowed by AT&T (for a small fee of course) so she's not trying to cheap them but take advantage of the 30 day exchange. However she is concerned because of the water indicator which would void the whole deal.

OP, you can try but most likely, you will be told the phone is no longer in the same condition your received it so you won't be able to exchange.

I am curious if you bring it into the bathroom with you. I have heard that really humid conditions (i.e. when taking a shower), it does cause it to turn slightly pink - albeit I have never had that happen to me...as my BB is never more than 3 ft from me...

Yes, this is true. When I got mine, they swore up and down that no new blackberries were going to come out for a while. So I gave in and bought a new one cause my contract was up, even though I could have waited. So I felt that this was a bit unfair and I talked to ATT so far they have been very understanding. But according to what you all say, it will probably be void. I should have just waited until my old BB broke. I guess that's why they say patience is a virtue. But thanks for all your help guys.

By the way, I have to say, the 9700 is very good, just the internet sucks on it. but ah well, it's my own fault. MAybe I will just buy the new torch (wishful thinking :D

If the only thing that indicates wet is the battery, you have a good chance of a replacement. You may have to argue that the BB was never wet. Worse case buy a new battery and replace it. Again if it's only the battery indicator.
