This is *almost* correct, but with this update and the latest version of DTM (4.1) the applications that are downloaded OTA are in fact backed up and restored. If you installed it via DTM and have moved the software to a different folder, it won't get reinstalled.

My biggest problem so far is that pocketday is now completely screwed. I installed 3.51, tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it numerous times. Also attempted clearing the database out for it with DTM (Done by going into advanced databases with the BB unplugged, then delete the Destop [Sync] service book and connect it, all databases are accessable now for clearing or copying.) with no luck.

I will contact cross river systems and see what they have to say....

I went ahead and upgraded and so far the only thing I lost was my RSS Feeds in Pocket Day. Everything else seems to be working.

You should be able to upgrade with no problems. I am on BES 4.0 and the upgrade to 4.1 on my 7520 went just fine.

Do you have the new Bluetooth options on your 7520?

You mention a new theme? was this pre-loaded? or are you talking about the 3rd party themes that are available?

If you are on BES, you need the BES to be version 4.0.3 to have the bluetooth sync options. If not on BES you should have them once you upgrade to version 4.1.

To set a custom ringtone select Profiles, then the profile you want to set it in, i.e. Normal. Select New Exception. You will see Exception: ... Give your exception a name. Under From: you can select those people you want the exception to apply to. Check Custom Phone Tone and select the ringtone you want to apply and save.

yeah I found that 1 theme that comes up after selecting "download Themes"... but it's cheesy. I found bliss2 and highway from another thread and those will do.

Yes, but you'll have to reactivate. Resync when done.

Various posts have included info about the new stuff in 4.1. Is there any documentation from Nextel or RIM that details the new features/enhancements?

Ahhhh ... hadn't seen that. Makes it easy to do a single person. The way I posted allows you to add several people to the same ringtone and group them ... i.e. Work - person1, person2 etc.

Yeah, this OS 4.1 seems to have alot of nice options in it and adds alot as far as customizing the phone side of things... Very welcome additions to the device as it just makes it that much easier to use.. If SMS comes out or is available on the 7520 soon I will be a very happy person.. That makes the device almost 100% of what I want.. (Still missing a good MSN client that's free, I've got AIM and Yahoo covered, and other things the 7100 has that are nice but not needed)

Seems this is more then a .1 revision of the software, lots of additions here.

Exclamation Searching for a name in the phone screen?

Hey Guys-

Recently upgraded to 4.1 and noticed I am no longer able to type in someone's name below the number input area in the phone screen. Is this a feature that has been done away with? I can still select "Call from Address Book," but I really liked the old functionality. Any tips? TIA!

Thumbs up So far, so good...

Well, I'm cautiously optimistic. I just installed the new OS a short while ago. A former co-worker helped me out with downloading it via a broadband connection. So far, it seems to be more stable than 4.0.1.whatever was, and WITHOUT having to go through the installation extremes that version required (i.e. doing a clean uninstall of all BlackBerry software from my PC, then installing the 4.0.1 software, just to get a bug-ridden, worthless OS that I had to uninstall!)

Still, only time will tell if this version's truly better. I'll be putting it through its paces tonight and I'll see what happens.

Off to play with my , be back later.

EDIT: Had a small scare with REQWireless WebViewer where I thought it was no longer going to work, but it may have been just user error.

So, after 1 full day, I have this to say:

THANK YOU RIM!!! :-D

This OS is the one I've been waiting for! It's given me the improvements of 4.0.1.xxx without the hellacious bug infestation!

Things I'm really liking:
--Downloadable theme(s)! (I'm currently using the new Pixelistic theme)
--Free downloadable games!
--Free downloadable ringtones!
--Improved Bluetooth functionality!
--New, free, downloadable wallpaper images!
--Improved web browsing speed on REQWireless WebViewer! :-D

Things that could use some work:
--The free version of Klondike (from Magmic) is lame... It limits you to "Draw 3" rules. I always play "Draw 1".
--The "Compose Message" and "Saved Messages" links are now gone from the Home Screen on the default theme... Yet the Pixelistic theme still has them. :-|
--Needs more downloadable themes, games, and ringtones (enough with the boring classical music! How 'bout some theme songs from movies and TV?)
--Previously mentioned agenda view "glitch" in Calendar.
--Others have claimed improved battery life on 4.0.1. I'm not seeing any improvement there.

If I have any additional thoughts, I'll post them later. I may also take and post some pics of the Pixelistic theme.
